i have just stumbled across this brailleeasy application for ios, and thought i'd share with the applevis community. This app lets you type braille in to your phone by just using 1 hand. you do the gestures in 2 parts so the left hand part first then the right. for example to do an m you would hold down to do dots 1 and 3 the first and third finger of your hand then release them. to complete the m, in this example you would then just press once with your first finger which now indicates dot 4 in the right-hand column. i find this a neat way of working.
When entering Braille characters on a brand new XR I constantly keep getting mistypes. Letter "w" is recognized as "j", "o" as "e", "s" as "i", etc. I'm certain I press all the necessary fingers because I specifically tested by both decreasing the entry speed and using other devices without any single error whatsoever. I've calibrated and re-calibrated, moved fingers closer to the different edges, tried to spread them wider, etc. with no apparent effect.
Hello. I am looking into possibly getting a BraillePen 12 touch, but I've never had any hands-on experience with them. I would really appreciate it if anyone could give me their opinions and thoughts about the display. The one I'm most familiar with at this point in time is the Refreshabraille18. I just don't have $1700 in my pocket to buy one of those again. However, I love it. I like the small size and small keyboard. I don't know what it will be like to transfer to an even smaller display though.
Does anyone have an Orbit Reader 20? How do I read Bard books? Also how do you edit ed deliete when using as display for IOS? Like how do you move the cursor to a letter so you can delete that letter and than change it like basicY make a corection?
Hello all,
I recently went to the apple braille device support page to see if I could get a command list for the orbit reader 20. The page I went to on the apple support site listed all kinds of Braille Displays with links to there commands list. For some reason the orbit reader 20 was listed as being supported but it did not have a link to its commands. I think it may be one of the only ones that was like this. Is there a reference to specific orbit reader commands or is there any?
Hello everyone! My name is Oveante Magsby. A few weeks ago, I received the orbit reader braille display. I absolutely love it!!! I am wondering in 8 dot braille, how do you write a question mark?
Anyone else have problems getting the Orbit Reader 20 to automatically detect your iPhone when you turn the Orbit on? I sometimes have to re-pair it to get it to work. Any fixes for this? Using an iPhone 8 with latest iOS.
I am seeking assistance with the orbit reader 20 I have tried many times to deal with the technical support page and email at orbit research and just keep going around in circles with them. The problem is that somehow, and do not ask. I have no idea how my language on my orbit reader was changed, and is no longer English, and I have not found any way to change it back to English. I even thought that maybe just reloading the software/firmware onto the display with reset things, but I cannot get that program to work as well.
Hi everyone,
I am looking at an orbit reader 20, and just have a few questions. I have read many reviews about the Orbit Reader, and am quite excited, but am curious as to whether the extra $100 for the Orbit Reader 20+ is worth it. Have any of you used this newer version?
1. How can I switch languages on the device? Is that possible? I will do most things in Spanish, but will need to switch to English every now and then. Is there a quick command to do this?
Hi,
The Orbit Reader 40 has recently been released, one of the questions that comes up is how loud is the display?
In this audio, you will hear the Orbit Reader 40 and reading aloud from across the room, and as well in my lap, both, the Braille refreshing and the Braille In on the 8 dot keyboard. http://www.weber-air.com/OrbitReader40VolumeLevels.mp3
Hello,
Does anyone here have an Orbit Reader Q40--the QWERTY keyboard version of their Braille display--and have it working in "remote mode" with an iOS device? I understand it should work but I cannot get the Q40 to go into remote mode and display Braille. It says it pairs via Bluetooth, but after that step I cannot get Braille to display from VoiceOver. I am curious if this is just a "me" problem? Or anyone else has had issues? Even better yet if you have do you know how to get it working?
Thanks.
Hello. Several months ago, I bought an Iphone SE 2016. I will begin by saying that I am not one for touchscreens, and rely exclusively on an external keyboard. I own a 380K and a Keys to Go, both made by Logitech. However, since they are both rather large when compared to the phone, I also bought an Orbit Writer, which arrived about a week ago. While I still have some questions regarding usage, right now, my main problem is that it suddenly stopped working with my phone. The operating system is fully up-to-date (IOS 14.7.1).
Hi, a few questions. for those that have the Orbit writer why do you like it? What do you like best about it? someone was asking me if you could easily type on it while walking or say standing in line at a store and you had to send a quick message. Any thoughts on this? Does it work on the Apple TV? Does it work on Apple Watch? With the latest update that came you can long press on buttons such as record voice message buttons in things such as iMessage or WhatsApp does it also work on rewind or fast forward buttons? To stop press space.
Hi everyone. Subject is pretty accurate. I've had some time to kill today, so figured I'd practice a bit with the NLS eReader which I just recently received. This question isn't about the eReader itself, or at least I don't think it is. But anyway, I've been attempting to pair it with my Mac and/or iPhone to get a better refresher on Braille displays since I'm not terribly keen on them in the first place. I used a VersaBraille when I lived in another state, but that's apparently no longer manufactured anywhere. That may be a topic inandof itself.
I just tried Libby. the navigation is nightmarish, but the actual reading experience on a Braille display is pretty good. Until it's time to move to the next chapter. From what I've noted on the help topics for the Libby app page, overdrive works better for navigation, but not for reading. Has anyone tried both apps with a Braille display? I tried Overdrive several years ago, and it was unpredictable with a display. thanks in advance for any pointers.
I've finally reached a frustration point. When using Pages on an iPhone 5S with the Refreshabraille, the app moves the display to the menu bar after a couple of minutes. The phone has not gone to sleep, or timed out. How can I avoid this happening (it is particularly frustrating when taking notes in a meeting since then you have to try to find where you were, route the curser, and then begin typing) or making a few keystroke correction to the problem so it automatically goes back to the text entry field and to the last character entered. Help appreciated.
Hi all. I've found that since updating to IOS7.02 I am no longer able to use Pages with my braille display on the Ipad. I can navigate and type but what I type is not displayed in braille. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Are there any alternative word processors that people have had success with using braille?? Thanks!!
I would like to pair my focus 40 blue with my MacBook pro. what is the best way to pair the display when VO function 8 does not seem to work? thank you.
