The other day, I decided to give Braille a go instead of my usual laptop setup. I'm on an iPhone 11 running iOS 14.8 and using a 5th gen Freedom-Scientific Focus 40 Blue. I tried using computer Braille with no luck. Everything I try to type results in a space. When I enable help, it identifies keys properly when I Braille a chord, but literally every braille dot is interpreted as "space". Okay, so I try UEB, and that works better, but the display takes seconds to update. It's no where near instant.
Hi all. I've tried using braille screen input off and on since iOs8 but never have much success. Sometimes I can get it to work for a while, but then, just as I'm thinking its the greatest thing ever, crazy things start happening. The dots don't seem to register correctly no matter what I do. The letter p becomes l or w becomes j and b becomes a colon. It sometimes helps to recalibrate my dots, but more often than not, that makes no difference. I am wondering if others have avoided this problem and find this a useful tool, or do you share my disappointment?
Hello. I always use braille input on screen on my phone and love that I can find a link and then go out of braille and just double tap for the link. Is there a way to move between text elements?
Hi all:
I have a supported braille display. I’ve done everything in the user guide and I’ve connected it to my iPhone 14Pro running the latest update not in beta. Whilst my user guide tells me a lot about navigating through the file/book, taking notes and other such things, it does not tell me about how to actually read these files. They are in zip folders if that helps. I’ve read a lot of people talking about DropBox, and I’ve got that app, but I don’t really know what to do. Can someone clue a girl in, please?
Hello! I am planning to buy a VarioUltra braille display from Baum. Has anybody used one of these? If so, how well does it work with VoiceOver on the Mac and iPhone? I think it's a great braille display. What do you think? Thenk!
A couple years ago I was having trouble using MBraille as a 3rd Party keyboard. Since IOS braille screen input worked great, I switched. Now with IOS 14, Braille screen input is very sluggish, so I thought I'd try MBraille again. I've downloaded it, restored purchase, added as a third party keyboard and even allowed for full access. I've set it up to be in Away mode, home button always to the left, full screen and have locked portrait orientation. I've also played with settings and googled the problem. It works great when in stand-alone mode.
Is there a command to turn the on screen keyboard off and on? That way I don't have to go into settings each time. I know how to change braille screen input and output. I am using a Focus 14 blue. Wayne
I have carbed through the entire help and even the list of
commands and can't find a way to double tap and hold.
To for instance activate the whats'up voice message button.
I even tried using the long press command dot 3, 5, 6 and then tried flicking quickly but sadly the lock button does not appear. If you try to rotor to it the long press gets dismissed.
Loving this new command mode for BSI, but that is about one of the important commands missing.
I am asking because I find there is a reboot bug whenever I use the Braille Sense via Bluetooth with my iPhone 15 Plus, but would still like to be able to use the Braille Sense with my iPhone without having to unpair and repair it every time, which seems to be what I have to do at the moment to stop the rebooting error from occurring.
It seems that tech in general honestly just does not like me, I seem to have very bad luck with it.
Thanks
Hi all.
Just wondering if there are any apps that will allow someone to speak in to them and the text of what they say will be readable via a braille display for someone who is deafblind?
Hello everyone, I have a following problem. I have a scanned textbook where there are lot of names and dates. I wonder what text editor or reading program shall I use in order to read the book with voiceover and look at details with a braille display. Consider the following made up passage. Lot of american presidents follow the usual and expected road when executing the policy dictated by their political party. The current american president certainly does not do that. For that reason one can say that Donald Trump is an unusual character.
Hello.
I just aquired a focus 14 blue braille display.
I am an author and used my iPad with a dedicated keyboard. That is currently on repair.
I am thinking of maybe using my braille disllay, connected to my phone, to write my book in Scrivener. I write (ery fast. I have changed a lot of commands to make the thing w*rk the way I want to.
Is this a good idea? Am not going to buy a huge keyboard for the phone.
Hi all,
Apologies to anyone who has read this post elsewhere, but I wasn't entirely sure where to post it.
I use my iPad and iPhone with Braille to read textbooks regularly. This has been working well with the apple books app and Kindle recently. I use a focus 40 blue 5th gen, and also a BrailleSense U2 for Braille access.
Hello everyone, I'm not sure if anyone has posted about this particular issue here, but I've observed that in iOS thirteen, Braille Screen Input seems to not be working correctly. For one thing, when I toggle Braille Screen Input on, it'll say something like, "Braille Screen input, six dot, contractions off," even though I know I set it to use contracted braille. Also, it makes this sound when I am able to get it working, kind of like the sound you get when auto correct is turned on, which I don't have turned on.
I am currently using iOS 10 With the VarioUltra Braille display. However I am finding that even though I am able to connect via Bluetooth the 2 devices do not seem to be working together. Is anyone having this problem and is there a way to fix it?
Hi,
I purchased two new BraillePen 12 Touch units on sale and received them and they seem fine (all the tests come out ok).
I just have this problem.
I can't pair it to my iPad Mini 2 running iOS 10.2.
I have read that the code is 1234 but this was just some random website telling me that.
The manual does not say.
Hello, wondering if anyone can help me out with a particularly frustrating issue i'm having connecting my orbit reader 20 Braille display with my iPhone SE 2022, which is running iOS 17.4.1. Since updating to this version a few days ago it's been a struggle pairing them, but after several times of completely unpairing, turning bluetooth off on both devices and re-starting both devices, i've managed to get them to co-operate eventually ... until today that is. Despite my trouble shooting jobs they just refuse to pair at all.
I am concerned about the struggles that I and others have been having lately using braille displays with the iphone. My braille display used to work well, but lately has been getting stuck and not connecting. I hope this will be addressed in subsequent IOS updates. I do not believe this has to do with any particular display since I have heard similar comments from people using many different models.
