I'm a software developer with a very recent interest in braille support.
I typically write my application help in html, and I wondered how do the braille display devices handle it.
Hi guys, I am planning to buy a braille display. My initial desire was to buy the HumanWare Brailliant bi 40 because I liked the reviews I read about it. I also thought of the Focus Blue 5th gen 40 braille display from Freedom Scientific. But it's more expensive here. It costs 200 Euros more than the Brailliant bi 40. However, I read a disquieting comment somewhere that the Humanware bi 40 is no longer supported by the manufacturer. I have a PC running on Windows 10 and iPhone XR. Does the Brailliant bi 40 work with windows 10, jaws 2019, and iOS 13?
Hi! I have a question for a friend of mine. I was going to try her braille display on my mac. I connected it through the USB, it first responded as usual, except that it was showing battery status instead of reading the screen. Then it simply stopped working We tried to press the start button and ejecting it and then connecting it again.
So I wonder what the problem could be and how to solve it? We are not trying to connect it via BlueTooth, but through the USB cable.
Anyone who has any idea, please help!
Hello to all, I am looking for a new braille display fro use on iOS or Mac computer. I have VarioUltra braille display, but because the hard status of Baum and because that Baum has bing closed I don't know if I will get any service on my braille display, until then that my Braille display will needs a service I thinking to by a new braille display. I look on the new braille display from Hims company but I don't know how it works on. iOS and Mac devices and if there are 5 or 4 bluetooth connections to work with my Apple devices, someone knows info about this?
Hi. I am having a problem when trying to use braille screen input. I will be typing along, just typing, not trying to enter dot calibration mode or anything, and all of the sudden, my iPhone will say something like, to calibrate the dot positions, place 3 fingers on the left side of the screen, lift them, then place 3 fingers on the right side of the screen and lift them. So I try that in different ways and different speeds and I am still stuck in calibration mode and can not type normally anymore.
hey guies I am using a braille plus. I can not get the podcasts and news RSS thing to work. It is like the feed manager for this machine and it does not start. I click on it and then my machine freezes. I have downloaded the latest update. please help me, and thank you.
I got my new iPhone 12 pro today, and was excited because a friend told me most braille bugs had been fixed in iOS 14.5. Maybe so, but the most annoying one, which I have mentioned here still exists. In order to hear characters you erase using Orbit Writer for example, typing feedback has to be set for characters or characters + words for hardware keyboards. Hearing each character as I type is distracting, so I set it for words only. When you erase anything, you're not told what's being removed. come on apple, do better.
So I just purchased a Refreshabraille for my iPhone and I'm very excited! Anyone else use a refreshabraille? What has been your experience with it? How's the battery life? Is it fairly light and portable?
I am a newcomer to using Braille displays with an iPhone. I have an orbit reader 20. Can anyone explain how I get to a specific page in a book using an orbit reader with an iPhone. For example I need to get to page 98, but I seem to have difficulty getting there. Many thanks in hope.
Hi all,
I'm experiencing some issues with iBooks and my Braille display which is a Fs Focus 40 Blue.
When I'm reading a book and a notification comes up it is displayed on my Braille display which is good. But after the notification goes away I am not where I've been before. So I have to navigate to the text and then to the certain line where I left manually. I think that is quite anoying. The same problem happens when I'm navigating to another control of the app by using the Braille display and returning to the text again.
Sitting here thinking about the braille edge 40 coming to ios 6, it seems like the perfect bridge between transissioning from a notetaker to a braille display. but then I kind of got to thinking about this slide out keyboard I saw on a droid my friend had. With its nice fat lite keys, I was able to type with under 5 minutes of using the thing with only 2 errors. I then thought about how excited I was to be getting a keyboard case for iphone that acts as a slide out keyboard.
Hi folks, I'm getting ready for a phone upgrade in a few months and am curious what your experiences have been like using Braille displays on iOS 17. As I've said previously I love the Braille experience with compatible displays on android, no random cursor jumps while writing longer emails, much fewer connection issues than I remember with displays in iOS from a couple years ago. How improved are these issues in iOS 17 and have any new Braille bugs popped up?
Just wondering how to change the settings to input text on a mac using my braille display. I would like to switch it to grade 2. Don't know what it is currently, but it is acting really strange. I used to have the same problem on iOS, but I was able to fix that by changing my input method. Thanks :)
I'm interested in being able to use grouped navigation and BSI command mode simultaneously. I've spoken to Apple Accessibility and I've provided feedback online requesting the feature. The purpose of this post is to find out if other users would like to have BSI commands for move-in and move-out which would simplify navigation.
If you have a work-around for this issue, please share it.
Hello all, I am pleased to say that MBraille, which has been in development for the past few months, is to be publicly available on the app store sometime next week, so long as Apple approves it. This app, made by MPaja, the developer of such apps as Robo-E, Mopidi, VOTimer, and VOCalc, demonstrates all the accessibility of his previous work. The app allows you to type in braille in either contracted or uncontracted (grade 1 or 2) braille, send Facebook posts, tweets, sms messages and emails, and set calendar appointments either through the menu or by the use of dot commands.
