My blind sister decided to take the plunge and bought a previously owned iPhone 7 32GB to see how she got on with it. She's not very techy minded unlike me. I have been setting it up for her without any issues, but I've noticed VO falls silent, mostly when in edit fields but also at other times. The only way to get VO back is to lock the iPhone, then unlock it, lock it, unlock it, then it seems ok for some time but inevitably falls silent again later on and I have to go through the lock/unlock/lock/unlock process again.
iOS and iPadOS
Whilst doing some general exploring today, I've discovered that a bug that was somewhat minor [yet very annoying at times] has been fixed in the latest version of iOS [8.1.2]. In previous versions of iOS 8, when VoiceOver was active, apps and folders located on the bottom row of a home screen could not be moved using the double-tap and hold gesture.
Given all the discussion about what is broken in iOS 8, I decided to start a topic about what is actually working better in iOS 8 than it was in iOS 7. In spite of all the flaws, Apple did manage to fix some things in this new OS. I will list a few things I've noticed personally.
Iβm trying to write a review of an app in the App Store and voiceover keeps crapping out on me. Iβll be typing or using the rotor text navigation options and voiceover will completely lose focus, eventually landing somewhere in the status bar at the top of the screen. When I touch the screen where the app should be I just get that clunking sound indicating that voiceover cannot focus on any controls. Clicking away from the app and coming back again along with turning off and restarting voiceover seems to temporary get it working again, but then the issue just happens again.
Hello,
So i was browsing safari recently using my bluetooth keyboard logitec k810 and realised that i could focus voiceover at the beginning or at the end of the screen using container in rotor settings but could not focus voiceover at the center of the screen.
Is there a way to focus voiceover at the center of the screen using a bluetooth keyboard?
Thanks,
Arvind
Does anyone else have a bug where trying to double tap something will sometimes cause the voiceover focus to move to the status bar or to some random place within the app? I've also encountered it while using a bluetooth keyboard, so it's not due to wild fingers. I've got an IPhone 6s with the latest iOS stable release and had no trouble with focus moving until I upgraded to 13.1.2 or whatever it was a month or so back. The latest version has not fixed the bug.
Just updated to iOS 16.1.1 and where the bug exists causing a subject line from one email box to merge with content from another box doesnβt seem to have been solved. Still exists in all its glory. Disappointed Apple. you emailed me to say that you were aware of this problem.
I wonder if someone can help me?
If I connect an Apple Magic Keyboard to my iPad (which is running iOS 12.4) are the keyboard shortcuts that control VoiceOver and some of the biggest apps (such as Safari, Pages, Word) the same as those that I would use on my Mac (running High Sierra)?
Thanks,
I'm running ios 13.6 on an iPhone8, when I use amazon and try to go to the app switcher to close it after I'm finished using it voiceover freezes and I have to go in and out of the app switcher several times before voiceover responds again. This is the only app I'm noticing this with. I'm using the regular amazon shopping app.
Anyone noticing this behavior?
Hi all,
This bug I'm about to mention has been going on since the launch of iOS 16. so, frequently, at random times, while in the messages app,VoiceOver says numbers and/or email addresses, even though they are saved into my contacts. the only workaround is to restart the iPhone and/or VoiceOver, only to find out that it starts all over again at another random time. Am I the only one that is experiencing this bug?
Hi there,
Hoping someone is able to assist me.
I'm looking for an app that allows a group of people to brainstorm and communincate on ideas together. Maybe even something that allows messaging between members of the group. If something like this exists, please do let me know.
Hi. I was wondering if there are any tv guide apps out there that are voiceover friendly. I was using tv guide mobile until last night. I came across an add that caused voiceover to freeze for several seconds to a minute before it started talking again. Also, the tv guide mobile app does have the really annoying issue of returning you to the firse channel in a list when you are trying to find something to watch.
Hi All,
I have just mistakenly discovered that a two finger double tap can resume playback of Netflix when it is running in the background.
I realize that this gesture is the standard play pause gesture, but I didn't know it would work for Netflix when you are at the home screen or your iPhone or iPad is locked.
So, I am right now working through having lots and lots of photos described by AIRA.
I would like to start from photo 1 in my Recents album, going one photo at a time. However, the AIRA app lists the photos from most recent to earliest and there is no way to set them the opposite way. There is also no scroll bar to the right of the screen. If I merely scroll down using three-finger swipe, I would have to do that 100 times or more to get down to the very bottom of my photos every. single. time.
hi all, I had to reset an iphone SE to fix a problem yesterday, and when I went to go reset it, I got a voiceover prompt i never got before, when I went to reset all settings. I wonder if anyone has gotten this before. when resetting the phone, it said iphone shutting down as it always does, but then something new happened. after a few seconds voiceover came back on in samanthas voice and said resetting iphone. then it came back on a few seconds later after this prompt.
Hey Everyone,
I am wondering if anyone else is having this issue sometimes. I have an iPhone 14 and I have iOS 17.0.3 installed. Does anyone have the problem where while your device is ringing with a regular call, your voiceover and screen freeze on you where you can not answer the incoming call? I have this happen to me about 2-3 times a week. It is frustrating not being able to answer an incoming call. I am lucky that I have 2 other devices besides my iPhone 14 that I can answer calls on.
Thank you!
Hello World! I freshly discovered a VoiceOver glitch with Apple Mail, but ONLY if you're a blind developer exchanging source code.
During VoiceOver's initial "forward scan" of text-based E-Mail content with embedded or inline source code of either the Swift or C programming languages, VoiceOver will announce something to the effect of "BUY module."
On a "repeat scan", VoiceOver reads the embedded source code as text.
When I'm composing new mail messages or replying to messages in the iOS Mail app, I find that VoiceOver behaves erratically. When I swipe to move the cursor by characters, words, lines etc it seems to misreport the letter the cursor is next to. For example, it will announce a space, so I'll start typing thinking whatever I'm typing will be followed by a space, only to find there was no space. It's kind of hard to explain exactly so I'm hoping someone knows what I'm referring to.
