Hi all,
last night I used braille screen input to right a long text for the first time, and I was quite pleased with how it went, I found it easier to use 6 dot rather than contracted braille because when I tried to use contracted often I didn't get results that I wanted,
also in contracted mode when you enter a punctuation sign at the end of a word like a period you get no feedback, but in 6 dot mode you do.
also I found the character buy character feedback reassuring in 6 dot mode.
Hello friends, I’m planning to buy the iPhone 16 Pro Max, but I’m unsure whether to use a screen protector because I’ve heard that it can make typing with the Braille keyboard difficult, potentially affecting the Braille Screen Input feature. On the other hand, not using a screen protector comes with risks. Do you use a screen protector? For those who do and don’t, do you experience any issues with Braille input? Initially, I was considering the 16 Pro, but I’ve heard that the Braille keyboard works better on the Pro Max.
Hi, everyone. I'm not sure if this is just me, (my Apex is a bit strange), but I have encountered an issue while editing multipage documents with a braille display on my Mac using Pages. If I am scrolling through a file and VoiceOver moves to the next page, my braille display will show the first line of the page that was displayed before the change. My workaround has been to delete a character then reinsert it, and the display will move to my cursor position. All of my cursors are tracking each other. Has anyone else encountered this issue?
hi all,
i want to buy a new braille device. i'm thinking of both active braille and braille sense u2
what do you think better?
i like active braille because of its robust technology
what do you think? and do you have other suggestions for advanced braille devices?
i will use them with my mac and iphone and may use it to do presentations
thanks
have a good day
I just purchased a Focus 14 Blue braille display. One reason I settled on that particular display is that according to Freedom Scientific's website, you should be able to adjust the firmness of the Braille dots.
The problem is, I can't find any way to do this using either my Mac or iPhone. The user guide for the Focus Blue only mentions doing this using jaws. Anyone know if there's any workaround for this on os X or iOS? Or is that option strictly limited to jaws users?
Hey guys! So, I have a question for you. I've been wondering whether I should have the unified english braille system and the Liblouis unified inglish braille tables on my Ipad. Are there any advantages and disadvantages? Circumstances where one would better over the other? One main reason I'd be doing it, is for learning the new UEB math standard. Another is, for the possibility to have 8-dot contracted braille. Because every time I read a book or magazine in BARD, I need to switch to 8-dot braille for things to translate and come up correctly.
Hi
Please help?
after updating have noticed some improved stability with BSI on iphone, I have turned every single variant of predictive text I can think of off, apart from the, ' check spelling ' feature, but still, phone makes noises, when typing in BSI, like my phone has autocorrect/predictive text, switched on
I like to think of myself as fairly knowledgeable when it comes to VO on IOS, but please, someone tell me there's something I'm doing wrong?
Many thanks for reading, and in advance for responses
So Apple has resolved the notorious issue of panning, and we are back with more problems. I am a multilingual, I have English and Arabic braille tables on my iPhone 12 with the latest iOS release. if I switch to Arabic table and start typing with my display the input will stay in English and will only register Arabic characters if they have no equivalent characters in English, I switched to LibLouis Arabic table and once I switch to it the whole line of braille dots goes down, no one single cell, it is not an issue with my display I tried with more than one.
Hi all!
I am facing some confusion regarding the space key on my braille display.
When I'm in a text field, it works as normal. But it does other things too. In the Podcasts app (this is the only app I've encountered this in), it can be used to start or stop playback. when browsing through search results using the Google Search engine on Chrome or Safari, it activates the "About This Result" window. Sometimes, I can use it to stop voiceOver speech, but then it won't start again and I can't find a pattern to this.
Hi guys. So, I used android for nearly 6 months last year. While it was lacking in many areas that iOS was good at, there was a Braille keyboard that I used called advanced Braille keyboard. Basically, this was a lot easier to use than Braille screen input. One of the features that made this keyboard stand out was the existence of an Afrikaans Braille table. Yes, this thing actually let you write in fully contracted Afrikaans Braille, which is something that Braille screen input doesn’t seem to do.
Hello everyone. I am evaluating the nbew Alva Comfort 40 cell braile display, but I cnanot get it to bluetooth reliably with my iPhone 4S running the latest Ios8. The problem appears to be within the display, but I have noticed that in general, the 4S with the new operating system does not deal with braille very well. With respect to the Alva: conneciton either does not hold, or it locks during text extensive applications such as braille input of txt msgs. Hoping that others have had similar problems, have soled them and that they would be glad to share suggestions and solutions.
Hi, I'm using an iPhone 4S and a Refreshabraille 18. I first started using iBooks on my old iPod Touch 4G, before I got an iPhone, and noticed the same issue with my braille display and the app. When I start reading a book with my braille display, at first, it's fine. The, after a bit, VoiceOver seems to lose focus. It will either take me to the library button (at the top of the screen), or to the page chooser. It sometimes does this while I'm still reading a page, too, or just after I turn a page.
Hi All
I've just received my Focus 14 Blue Braille Display today. It works wonderfully except for a slight issue. Any text that voiceover classes as a hint or
status message, such as "Speech On"; only stays on the display for a few seconds at most. Not really enough time to read it. Has anyone else experienced
this problem and if so, is there a work around or solutions.
Any help is much appreciated.
Debbie
I want to be able to read Bookshare books in Braille off the NLS Display and I don’t know what apps are supported? Is read2go still available?
Thanks
Hello everyone. I'm on the prowl for a 20 cell display for the purposes of operating my phone when i'm on the train as part of my daily commute - my larger 40 cell displays are just too long. I'm hoping soon to have a Vario Ultra to evaluate, and its user comments read so far tend me towards expecting a good evaluation. However: the Orbit is coming, and I should research this device as well. I am not concerned about price, (not intended to be arrogant) but features and quality matter.
Hey guys. I know it's been a long time since I've been on this site. Anyway, with the demise of the Flicktype third party keyboard option, I've been looking for other alternatives. I tried Braille Screen Input for a while but I just found it very stupid that I have to rotor to it in order to use it. The Flicktype third party keyboard just popped up when I needed it. So I turned my attention to MBraille which is a third party keyboard and it's really good.
You might have seen from 1 of my previous post that I've got a braille sense that I've been using as a braille display for my iPhone to see what I think. Its really good, but theirs one thing I don't get. On my braille sense the settings for the braille cursor is set to always up, but on the iPhone when I'm on a text field the braille cursor is still blinking. Any way to stop this?
Thanks.
I went to my state's department of services for the blind yesterday to try out various braille displays. Then I got my hands on a HIMS BrailleSense Polaris and it was instant love. I hadn't thought about a notebook before but quickly realized how handy it could be for meetings and visiting patients at remote sites (I moonlight in hospice but primarily work in tech) to using it in classes. Originally I was thinking I'd want a Brailliant BL 40 display but now I'm obsessed with the Polaris.
