Hello all-
I am finding an unusual bug in Mac OS 15 with my Brailliant BI 40 X. Everything appears to be fine but after about an hour of use I lose the connection and the display freezes up and the only fix is to restart the Mac.
This happens over both Bluetooth and USB connections.
*1. Is anybody else having the same problem? Have you found any workarounds?
*2. If this is potentially a manufacturer problem, is there a plan for an update?
Regards-
Mara.
Hi, all. I just got a new iPod with iOS12. On previous versions, I was able to navigate to the dock with dots 4-5-6 chord. That is not working currently. I have a RefreshaBraille 18, hardware version 2, driver version 6. Everything else works like a charm. Is it my setup, or is there no command assigned for this anymore? TIA
Hello to all Braille users.
I am trying to work around an issue I discovered following the recent update. Here is what I find:
1. Enter the messages app (this may occur in other apps, but I find it useful in that one).
2. Write some text using a Braille display (mine is a focus 40 fifth generation).
3. Attempt to press the command to input a carriage return, which used to be dots 3-7 and then dot 8.
4. You now find it does not work.
I have tried to find a way to remap those keys but so far have not been successful.
I am having difficulty maintaining a stable connection between my iPad and iPhone with my Braille display. Each time I am on edit field or editable text the display crashes. I can not input braille or read output text unless I lock then unlock the the iOS device. This is on the latest iOS and iPadOS with HumanWare Brailliant2. Is there any workaround for this? I am proofreading client's documents and have no access to a Windows or MacOS machine.
Thanks
So, what Braille devices have you used in conjunction with an iOS device? What is your opinion on iOS' functionality with a Braille device? Did you find the experience enjoyable, cumbersome, simple, challenging?...
I've used my iPhone 3GSwithmy husband's Braille Sense On-Hand. I have to say, it opens a lot of new experiences for me. I have an app that I use for my online college classes & it works great with the Braille Sense On-Hand.
Hi all. I have a friend who is both deaf and blind. She is trying to use IRC chat with the Colloquy app on an old iPhone 5e with a Focus 40 Braille display.
The problem she's encountering is that, if she's in the middle of typing a message, and someone else's chat message comes in at the same time, it garbles her message. I've seen her messages come up in chat, and a few words will be readable, then the rest has letters missing and is pretty much unreadable. If no chat messages interrupt hers, then her messages come through just as she typed them.
I have an iPhone 6, and am seriously kicking myself for updating to iOS 11. It appears that Apple tried to "fix" things which were never broken, and created a number of accessibility bugs which can be quite debilitating in some cases, especially for a Braille display user like myself. Currently I'm experiencing the following bugs and am wondering whether others are as well:
Hello all, I am helping somebody learn how to use their iPhone via Skype. He has been able to connect his braille display to his iPhone 5 until recently. Now it will not connect at all. I have instructed him to reset both his braille display and iPhone yet it still won't connect. He says the iPhone recognizes the braille display but the display will not connect. Do you think this is a braille display issue or an iPhone issue? Thanks in advance for any help. Best regards, Jesse tregarthen
I’ve been looking for a device to sort of fill the niche which used to be handled by my old braille notetakers. I thought maybe an iPhone could do the trick but I’m still finding a few persistent braille bugs in iOS, particularly with eratic cursor movement when I’m working with more than a paragraph or so of text. Is the experience of using a braille display with an iPad any better or would it be the same?
Hi friends, (first post, woo!)
I just got a brailliant 40 and i have it paired with my iphone. I use a lot of accented characters and i know these can be accessed by using the alt key in windows in the option key on macs.
For example
option a = å
option b = ∫
is there anything like an option modifier on my brailliant? is the modifier the same for other braille display devices? ive noticed that pressing dot-8 with my letters renders some accented characters, but theyre not the same ones as my option key on the mac?
Hi,
I'm looking for a braille display for my 8 year old. Something simple that can he can practice writing with as well as reading. He uses an iPad so it would have to be compatible with that. I've read that Freedom Scientific products tend to be sent in for more repairs and since I don't live in US this would be an issue for me. So I was wondering if anyone has any information about the latest rugged 5th generation of Focus displays.
Hello. I am using an nls humanwere e:reader with my iPhone, 11, and iPad Air purple sixth generation. Last night, I noticed that my braille display disconnected itself from my phone. When I try to press the menu button to take me into the menu and reboot it, it would not let me do that at all. Last night, I had to shut it down twice, and reboot, my braille display twice. The weird thing about the issue. I experienced last night is that it did not happen during the day, but it happened last night. It just is really weird to me. Do you guys have any advice on what I should try doing?
My Focus 14 blue will not type with my iPad. I can do everything else with it, except type. I am running the latest version of IOS. I have turned the keyboard on in hopes that the problem would be solved. It's not. I have restarted the iPad, plus forgot the display and reinstalled it. Same issue.
I’ve incountered a weird problem with my braille display when typing in a text box. When i press the space bar, it keeps switching between the emoji and english UK keyboards meaning i can’t type. How do i switch permenantly to the English UK keyboard?
Hey there everyone.
I've got a quick question for you all.
Has anyone else experienced braille displays losing focus with in a kindle or voicedream reader book?
example.
You read a bit of a page and it jumps you to the beginning of the page. and you lose your spot.
If so, is their a way to fix it? I'm running iOS 16, latest with the nls eReader zoommax.
Help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
I am using NVDA with Parallels and everything is set up correctly except my braille display is not showing up. I have selected to connect my braille display to windows 11, but i just get "Braille Display" appear on the display and it does not change the content when i move around the screen. is this normal?
I am considering purchasing a Braille display I can use with my iPhone. Would I need to pair any of the displays more than once? If I purchase a device such as a traditional notetaker with a qwerty keyboard, will i need to enter quick nav to enter text as I do with my Apple bluetooth keyboard? How do you enter a password that has capital letters, numbers, and other symbols if the device has a Perkins style keyboard? Is there a device that works better with the iPhone? I am considering the focus 40 blue from freedom Scientific and the Hims products. Thank you.
