Hi, I decided to connect my braille display to do some editing on a few essays. I connected via USB, and found I could not type on the Braille display to issue commands. Has anyone else seen this? I am running the latest software builds of both the Apex and Mac software, and don't know which system is causing the problem. Thanks, Chelsea

Hi.

According to the braille commands for Apple, to access the app switcher with a braille display, your supposed to press dots 1 6 and the spacebar, but this command does not work. To get to the App switcher, you press dots 1 2 5 and spacebar. Is this normal or should the dots 1 6 and spacebar work correctly?

Thanks.

Jay.

Hi, I will preface this by saying I am a very not technical person. So I finally got around to updating to iOS 16. However, now I am really struggling using my braille display in Apple books. This is a huge issue as I read for hours every day. At the end of each print line or paragraph, I’m not really. Sure, the braille display comes up with the words actions available. I imagine VoiceOver must be coming up with that, and the braille is displaying it.

So I upgraded to iOS and iPadOS 17 nd my Focus 40 4th Gen is no longer working. It works just fine on MacOS running the latest release, and it works on my older devices.
I sent a report to Apple and received the following response:

Hi all,
Does anyone know if the Orbit writer works with the apple tv as I can't navigate the tv with bi14 or the orbit reader itself and can't get my head round a blue tooth keyboard.
Equally, i struggle to type on the touch screen.
Many thanks

Hello everyone,
First, apologies if this has been posted before, but I am curious about whether or not someone has managed to successfully connect an NLS Ereader to an Aple Watch successfully? I tried earlier today, and the first time I did, it paired, but everytime I tried to access the Watch from the display, it would beep, then return me to the devices page on the display. I then tried unpairing it, restarting both devices, and reconnecting it. Again, no dice, though this time it absolutely refused to connect at all even when it did find the watch.

Hi all!
As some of you may know, Apple Support has a list of "supported" braille displays on their website. I have been looking at it over the past few months or so, and have noticed that the list doesn't look like it has all the right info.

Hi,
I have a Focus 14 braille display and am trying to learn braille with it. Can anyone recommend any good apps or web resources which I can get for my iPhone, iPad or Mac for learning? Preferably it would have some kind of structure or series of lessons to progress through.
I don't mind paying for it if it's worth the money.
Thanks,
Dave

I heard some time ago that with the advent of IOS8 that Bluetooth Braille Display input didn't work very well. I know it was very laggy and some commands didn't work. I was thinking of getting a Focus Blue 14 but this has been putting me off. Does anyone know if the problem is fixed in IOS8.3 as I haven't seen any reports about this on Apple-Vis?

Hello!
In fact, this question is not strictly related to Braille but it came out from using Mantis Q40 Braille device recently obtained by one friend of mine.
It seems that on this device only CTRL+OPTION combination is available as VO modifier and Caps Lock is used with its original functionality. And we are not able to reasign it for using as VO modifier. Ith happens on iPhone Pro Max with current iOS version. I remember that in the past it used tobe a separate option in VO settings but now it is gone. In the Command section I am not able to find anything appropriate.

Hi all. So I'm trying to assign new commands to my NLS EReader (Humanware) which uses HID Braille. When I try to assign Space with dots 1-2-4-5-6 to enable auto-scroll, it does nothing. On a Focus 14, however, it works. Other commands do the same thing, like Enter with dots 1-2-5 for next heading: it just won't assign the command. Has anyone has luck in doing this? Thanks so much for any answers. I don't like having two Braille displays, and would rather just use the EReader for everything.

I thoroughly enjoy using the braille input feature of IOS, however have a few questions regarding braille symbols to be used. What symbol is required for the @ sign in an e-mail address, (only braille dot 4)? My next problem relates to entering numbers and text together, for instance in a password such as "bt45s". How is this accomplished? Your assistance will be most sincerely appreciated.

Hi, Since the release of iOS 18, I have almost replaced the on-screen keyboard in iOS with Braille Screen Input. However, there are some symbols and characters I have to use the on-screen keyboard for, and I'd like to use BSI full time. The way you'd normally type these symbols in Braille doesn't seem to work.
