Braille on Apple Products

Description

For all things related to using Braille and Braille displays with Apple products.

Hi all,
I have a problem which I hope someone can help me with.
I recently purchased an Apple TV and was told from other forums that like other Apple products it could be used with the Orbit via Bluetooth.
However upon trying to connect it took ages to locate the Braille section within Vo settings once paired the Orbit would only stay paired for around 2seconds
and then lose the connection which I don't understand as I am right near the TV.

I'm just curious if anyone has had any luck getting an apple tv to work with the nls reader braille display, or any braille display for that matter. I remember having this issue several years ago, and the rumor at that point was that it might be fixed in iOS 16. I kind of forgot about trying to use braille on my apple tv for a while, but yesterday, I decided to give it another try. Specifically, I t ried it with the very latest apple TV box which was released last year and TV OS 17.

Need some help from a Braille user. I just bought a Brailliant 14 in hopes of improving my decades-faded Braille literacy from "utterly abysmal" to, with luck, "not entirely sucky" and I need to understand this new fangled UEB thing. Voiceover makes reference to "English (Unified)" as a Braille table, but doesn't mention it in reference to 8-dot or 6-dot input or output. The Brailliant doesn't mention UEB at all--just computer and literary, with language specified just as English US.

Hello Applevis members. I need your help. How can i type some of these symbuls using braille screen input in Unified English braille table? For example, if i want to type @, i must press dot 4, followed by dot 1. How about another symbuls?
I need to type: slash, plus, greater than, less than, percent, etc.
Thanks for your help and feed back.

Hello AppleVis community,
That's almost as rare as a unicorn sighting: the Apple Accessibility Team has, believe it or not, contacted me regarding two pesky issues I've been whining about. It's a surprise since, in the past, it felt like my feedback disappeared into the digital abyss.
Focus 40 Connectivity Issue:

I downloaded the updates that my new OR20 seems to need. I plugged in the device to my mac, but couldn't find it anywhere. I want to use the SD card to update. Will I have to buy an SD card reader? What a pain.

I am having a problem where bluetooth devices disconnect at random. When it happens to bluetooth speakers and such, I don't mind as much, but with my Braille displays, this is a major problem that I hope is fixed soon! Someone suggested resetting my network settings on my iPhone. I did that and am still getting the same thing. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Is it possible to use a braille display over USB on IOS or iPad-OS by connecting it with a lightning to USB adapter that can be found on amazon? This may provide a more stable connection. Does voiceover support braille displays over USB?

Hi, I've got a focus 40 braille display that is USB only. I was wondering if I can plug a bluetooth dongle into it so I can use it with my Iphone. Is there such a dongle available?

Hi, has anyone here successfully used a Braille Display to learn foreign languages on apple products? I'm seriously considering one, as I need it for a college French class. My question is, would the display automatically display the proper braille code while reading a document?

Hi all, I was wondering how I would use the BrailleNote apex qt as a braille display? I know how to connect it, but I don't know the keystrokes to interact with the ipod. Any and all help would work. Many thanks!

Hi to everyone,
I am new to this forum so sorry if this has been discussed before.
I am a fairly new IPhone user and due to the fact that I have limited manual dexterity I use an Orbit reader to control my I phone.
Now, I want to make myself a diary of what I am doing and where as I struggle to use Seri and the calendar app with my braille display, so I would like a word processor of some sort, that would allow me to save the document in Drop box and edit it on the iPhone add events ETC.

Hello all. For the time being do to a hearing loss I'm having to use my phone paired with my Braille note touch plus. Using voiceover is rather difficult because it sounds all muffled, no matter the voice I try. While I figured out a few things with navigating my phone completely from my braille dispay, there are still some things I can't figure out. I'm using a Braille note touch plus paired with an iPhone SE second generation. Here are the things I'm having trouble with. One, accessing my notifications. Two, accessing the asp switcher.

I am using iOS 11. When I type on my phone with the print on-screen keyboard, auto-correct catches my spelling mistakes. However, when I use my external braille keyboard, my mistakes remain with no correction. In previous iOS verssions, brailleing auto-corrected. Can I do this, or is this not an option anymore?

Hi All
When I try to fix a typing error in my text, e.g. mind instead of kind, the display locks up after I type the new letter and there is a six dot character at each end of the display. Is there a setting I need to change somewhere? Braille sense U2 with iPhone 5S.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Hi, all. I just installed Parallels on my Mac Mini M2 running Mac OS 14.6. I'm not yet ready to jump to Sequoia. My Mac side of things sees the Brailliant BI40X, but Jaws 2024 on Windows 11 Home does not. I unload VoiceOver, restart Jaws, but no Braille comes up on the display. Is anyone else able to switch between operating systems on Mac using a Braille display? I have another display that I could use with the Windows side of things if needed. I was just hoping to be able to use the same display and switch between operating systems. Maybe that's too much to hope for?

is it possible to have a 40 cell braille display (or multiple displays even) show two different things (like how a sighted person can have two windows next to each other). my thought is that if i have my uni assignment on one side and the reference material on the other, so that i'm not constantly changing windows back and forth.
I saw on apple support that you can make multiple braille displays show the same thing, but this isn't quite what i'm looking for.
thanks

My youngest daughter has low vision, and we are exploring options for note-taking, writing documents, etc. She is fluent in Braille. I know that iPad has the capability to output information to a Bluetooth-enabled refreshable Braille display (such as the Focus 40 Blue), but can these displays (that have Braille keys) also be used to write to documents in applications such as Pages or Evernote? Thanks in advance for help!

Hi, I'm thinking of typing Braille on an iPhone, and I installed Braille pad for that. But when I turn landscape mode on and select writing and start writing like I would in a brailler, nothing happens, it just clicks on random buttons located on the main page of the program. Any help? And sorry about my English.
