Hello,

I am a medical student hoping to develop an App that would help people with visual impairment complete daily activities. One app I have come across is Be My Eyes. Please message me if you are interested in talking about areas where an app might help achieve greater or easier independence.

Thank you and sincerely yours,

Joe

Hi. I just have a question about xcode. I am creating an app that can be used with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. I want to use the iOS simulator as my active run destination, but when I click on it VoiceOver announces it as being dimmed. It keeps selecting my iPhone 6S plus as the active run destination. While I want the app to work on the iPhone, I do not want to use it as my active run destination. Does anyone know why VoiceOver would announce the iOS simulator as being dimmed: I am new to app development, so maybe I'm doing something wrong? Thanks.

many thanks to the applevis community for helping create better voice over implementation, and leading the way to build a better app for folks (sighted, visually impaired, and blind) who want to make new friends, or seek casual dating and long term relationship opportunities.

Vorail is a voice-only messaging community to ask, answer, and make new friends. The Vorail community includes folks who are married, single, and divorced. Some are looking to make new friends, while others seek casual dating or a serious relationship.

I am building an app called β€œone sec”.
It forces its users to take a deep breath whenever they open social media.
This helps to reflect and gives users the power to decide if they really want to open an app and do so intentionally.

Recently on Twitter, a blind user contacted me about β€œone sec”. Unfortunately they didn’t reply to my follow-up question so far. But it brought to my attention that social-media overuse is a problem for everyone, so I would like to make my app accessible for everyone.

Hello World! This coming September 2019 will mark my 37 wonderful years of software development, originating in Seattle. My iPhone 6S+, now at 75+ days, has rekindled my computer programming lifestyle, despite I am now totally blind.
My original intention for buying the iPhone, in the first place, was to learn the Swift programming language, as a compiler for Android does not exist.

Hi all.

On another topic of this developers forum, @Remy has appointed that myTrueSound could benefit from kick starter options. One of our priorities is to get our games done till the end, and don't disappear too soon. I think we are going to survive though, specially thanks to the audio game engine we are developing, which we hope one day other developers will also use.

But in order to avoid surprises, I think it is wise I start to learn about additional funding instruments, like kick starter or crowdsourcing.

Hi,

I've noticed a few apps changing their navigation design pattern from using the hamburger panel menu to now icons at the bottom of the screen. I notice that Netflix have done the same this week.

My concern is how users know that the menu and search is now at the bottom? Is it deemed acceptable to let customers using VO find it using the finger gesture? Does anyone know of any workarounds? I'm assuming this will also cause problems for users with switch controls?

I have started work on a Texas Hold'em app that can use voice synthesis to announce plays, and voice commands as a way to make plays. This is intended for general release to all players as well, with a main focus on having fun with play money interacting with others. Goals include offering extensive in-game help with both learning the game and improving your play.

I need contributors for programming, game assets, and accessibilty implementation. Texas Hold'em is an ideal target because each player holds only 2 cards and shares 5 cards, yet is very challenging.

Hey friends,

I have helped to build LaunchCode, a nonprofit startup, which teaches thousands of people coding in-person and places them into coding jobs. We have innovated ways give this service to people for free and help hundreds of unemployed people get coding jobs. We have grown the organization to national scale, got praised by President Obama, and won MIT Inclusive Innovation Challenge.

If you use the StationPlaylist suite of products from www.stationplaylist.com you may be familiar with Voice tracking through the StationPlaylist Remote VT (client) to the StationPlaylist VT server. The Windows VT Remote app is accessible. You can listen to both the outgoing and incoming song ramps and record a simulated live show in a fraction of the time of a live broadcast. Currently, there is not an app for iOS to remote voice track into the server.

Hello,

Some of you might be familiar with DropVox (with a V), an accessible voice recoding app that uploads to Dropbox (with a B).

I'm the developer of DropVox and I'm being forced by Dropbox to rename the app. I'm asking for suggestions for a new name to make it more obvious how my app serves the needs of the vision impaired.

Thanks, Steve

Hello everybody,

I am a researcher from the IDEA Lab at the University of Michigan. We are
conducting a research study to understand how blind, low-vision, visually
impaired (BLVI) and deafblind developers customize VS Code and use VS Code's various accessibility features.

We would greatly appreciate it if you could take a few minutes to complete a short survey and share your experience and customization preferences with us.

Hi, are there any accessible Swift Playgrounds and Xcode user groups for the blind? I haven’t found any, so can I get some recommendations from the blind community please?
Thanks

Post Date:

Swift Playgrounds is a new app that will come out in the fall when iOS 10 is released. It will allow kids and adults who aren't app developers to learn how to code using your apple iPad, iPhone, and iPod.

In the app there are lessons so that you can learn, then you can create the apps and publish them to the App Store.

The app will be a free download from the App Store.

In the early lesson on finding and fixing issues the instructions say to drag the lines of code to put them in the correct order. Has anyone found a way to successfully do it with VoiceOver?

Post Date:

Hi,
I am a beginner at Swift and am wondering what Swift tutorials are the most accessible with VoiceOver.
I am interested in basic tutorials and also VoiceOver-accessible websites about Swift with a Keyword search function.
Thank you in advance for any suggesttions or comments about this.
