I'm developing an iOS application with a list of items that uses the "swipe left to expose a Delete button" design (similar to the Inbox in the Mail app). However, in VoiceOver mode this "swipe left" gesture does a "Move focus to the previous item" by design.
Is there a VoiceOver equivalent to the "swipe left" and "swipe right" gestures on the selected item? Or do I have to add some other accessible method to delete items (e.g. a "trash can" button)?
I'm Antonio, an independent developer from Italy. I've made an Apple version of King, a traditional card game with different objectives from one hand to the next.
You play offline against three computer opponents. The app and its rules are available in English and Italian.
Feedback from VoiceOver users
This is my first project where I've worked extensively on accessibility. I've implemented VoiceOver support and simplified controls, and I'd like feedback from people who use VoiceOver regularly.
I use VO on iPhone but now need to learn VO on Mac. National Braille Press has a Daisy Format book on Learning to use VO on Mac. What app can I use to read Daisy fommat on my iPhone and how do I get a NBP book into the iPhone app?
I am developing a 508 compatible application. I am facing a problem where VoiceOver is not recognizing my pop-up window (with aria role 'alertdialog') as an alert dialog. However, if i do a simple javascript (window.alert('test message');) it seems to be working fine.
Can anyone help me regarding what i need to do to make VoiceOver recognize my popup window as an alert ?
I had a VoiceOver user of my app (Please Don't Rain) point out an issue that I’ve definitely known about but have never been able to fix.
My charts have the X axis as each hour of the day and the Y axis is usually an amount (rainfall, as an example).
With Swift Charts when I tap part of a chart it summarizes the 3 hours and then you can swipe vertically to hear it read out details of each hour. The units aren't being read in the summary but they are for individual hours.
I'm trying to decide whether tappable elements that go somewhere should be read out as Links or Buttons. We have a lot of controls that are just navigation links that go to other screens in our app.
What is your expectation when you hear either of these?
According to this blog post, the meaning of link should be the same as the ARIA definition of link (and that something should only be labeled a link if it switches out of the app to Safari): http://www.deque.com/blog/ios-traits/
I am trying to add VoiceOver to a Segmented Control but the Apple example code does not work with Swift 3:
The Objective C code:
NSString *title = @”∫”;
title.accessibilityLabel = @”Integral”;
[segmentedControl insertedSegmentedWithTitle:title];
does not work with Swift like this:
var title: NSString = "∫"
title.accessibilityLabel = "Integral"
segmentedControl.insertSegment(withTitle: title, at: 0, animated: false)
Users of VSCode on MacOs, please tell me that you have found a method of making it more accessible and usable? On Windows, the application is really efficient to use. But on Mac OS with Voiceover, even the code editor is really inefficient with Voiceover speaking extra unneeded text etc.
Hi I am completely blind and I’m wanting to, create my own iOS app. I’m wanting to know of where I would have to go to, do so. I’m in the process of learning how to code, but any accessible websites would be helpful to help me. I as well wanted to know how much would it cost to put my app on the App Store? Once I’m at that place? The app I’m wanting to, create is like the old audio app called dabel. As I am very into the audio of being able to use my voice.
Hello All:
I want to get into learning to code for iOS. I have very little coding experience, however, I do have some scripting type experience. I have installed Playground on the iPad, and will be installing x-code on the Macbook.
I am looking for some good starting points regarding resources, forums, communities, etc suited for someone blind or visually impaired. Do all of you blind developers hang out anywhere specific? Pointers, advise, suggestions, mentors, and/or mocking welcome.
Thanks for any input.
Hey guys,
My first time posting a topic on applevis, so tell me how I can improve.....
Hope you're all okay!
... I am a new learner of the swift language. I have basic knoweledge of programming and coding paradigm although it's been a while since I last actually wrote a working code. I know python, php and a bit of c# among others.
One problem I often having with using an I-Phone is effectively closing or getting out of apps. I would like to have an app that would enable me to close any app that I am using with a quick button. It is disconcerting when apps won't close and remain open once you go t another app. Every app should have a way out that is easy. I would put a close or exit any app I am in and want to exit. I would also put a button on phone desktop that would allow me to close current or all apps or have all apps close upon shutdown. Is this possible or could an app be written to accomplish this task? le
We will be adding to the future episodes of GoldGun some first person shooting action. We have different opinions on the team about how to do it, and what would be the most realistic way to get.
The limitations is that our games are for mobile devices, both iOS and Android. So the game mechanics have to be implemented through the tactile interface and/or the gyroscope.
Hello everyone.
I am wondering if anyone went through an experience developing web/Python apps on Mac OS using VisualStudio Code and how accessible is it. Also if there are any IDEs you recommend to do such things on Mac OS.
I'm assisting a company with making its web product accessible. On the site, some UI elements such as buttons or plain text elements read out as "group" by VoiceOver. For example, VoiceOver will read as follows:
John Smith, group
John Smith
end of John Smith, group
Create Event, empty group
Assigning ARIA roles to these elements seems to fix the issue, such as making the first example a link and the second a button. I'm curious to know what is causing this as we can't seem to track this down in their builder.
We have a food delivery app that loads a list of restaurants.
If the list fails to load, instead of an error alert, we have an integrated error message displayed in place of the list. My worry is voice over users will not be aware that an error has occurred.
I have 2 ideas to fix this
First idea was to automatically move the focus to the error view in the list. However I have heard that moving the focus can be annoying.
Second idea is to just display an alert with retry and cancel buttons if voice over is enabled.
As you type results are displayed and updated in the list below.
As a voice over user would you expect to or like to hear notifications on the number of results as you type? Or just when there are no results? Or would that be annoying?
Is there anything else to consider when implementing search results?
Is there an example of an app that does this well?
