Hi all,
I'm writing a new VoiceOver backend for Ruuk's awesome service.xbmc.tts (http://ruuk.github.io/service.xbmc.tts/), but I need to actually check that VoiceOver is running.
I can do it with AppleScript I guess, checking all the processes, and return AppleScript true if VoiceOver is there, but how do I get that into Python?
Having read many posts by blind programmers across different communities, including AppleVis, I would like to draw attention to something that many of you may already know, but that still seems to be underestimated.
1. Integrated Development Environments based on graphical user interfaces have become extremely complex. Even many sighted developers struggle with them, and some of the most experienced developers still prefer programming in an ANSI terminal environment.
Hello all
It seems that you can now take a screenshot and post feedback from a crash
using IOS 13+ and the new testflight.
Has any dev or user had any experience of this?

Hi,
VoiceOver on IOS doesn't help with a lot of tools to understand this kind of thing, so I thought I'd ask. If I use touch exploration to get VoiceOver to land on the items on the screen, and I can't get it to tell me some things, but I can swipe onto them and hear them, and I know that I have scrolled to either the top or bottom with the three finger scrolling gesture, does that possibly indicate that the content I cannot explore to is off-screen?
Awareness! The Headphone App is designed to allow you to use headphones with your iDevice, but with the knowledge that important noises like warnings, shouts, sirens and alarms won't be missed.
Although not specifically intended for the blind or vision impaired, this app could have tremendous value to those of us who rely on our hearing to know what is going on around us.
For low-vision users, the iphone an accessibility feature that lets you zoom in with a 3 finger swipe up. One of the users of some of the blindfold games mentioned that the zoom feature seems to override the program from responding to a 3 finger zoom, even though the program uses the AccessbilityTrairAllowsDirectInteraction.
Has any other developer seen this problem before, and if so, how did you solve it?
I wanted to let you all know about a hot new iOS development course at tinkerlearn.com. The lessons contain working apps with the lessons in the comments of the code, making it very readable. Of course, you still have to wrestle with xCode. Also, I don't think the iOS simulator works with VoiceOver, so you'll have to become an iOS developer and register a device and run it on there. Still, for the first time I actually put some controls on the screen and moved them around. The developer also seems very interested in improving accessibility.
I'm a VoiceOver user. When editing xib files in Interface Builder of xCode 8.0, I cannot get to the toolbar at the bottom righthand corner of the canvas. That is the toolbar with the tools like align, pin, and etc. Do anyone of you have any ways to get around this problem?
The problem below is gone in iOS 27 Beta. Bravo Apple!
The bug was also affecting English: The string: 1 0 0 0 . 1 1 is spoken as "one thousand dot eleven" in iOS 26. In 27 Beta, it's correctly pronounced as "one thousand point one one"

Warning long, technical post reporting on VoiceOver features slash bugs.
I am posting on behalf of the developers of the TTS App, βRHVoiceβ.
This TTS is providing voices for a growing number of unsupported languages on Apple operating systems.
Hello,
I'm wondering if any Mac users have successfully used Choice Script on their Mac, with Voiceover, to create a Choice Of style game.
I've tried a handful of different things, followed the steps on the website, and just generally tried to figure out a solution, but nothing seems to make it work.
Their forums are kind of awkward so I haven't been able to get far with them, although I suppose I could sit down when I have time to devote to it and look into it.
I appreciate any help or ideas that I can get. xo
Hello,
I am a beginner in automation QA. Mainly I use windows for coding, but I also have an old MacBook Air 2017.
I mostly use Visual Studio Code for writing tests in Java, but recently I am getting tired with Java implementation in this IDE.
Yes, it is a really great solution in case of Accessibility that works perfectly on all operating systems (Windows, MacOS, Linux).
But Java and Maven implementation is something really horrible there.
Hi all,
I use Arch Linux as my primary OS nowadays but I decided to use my old MacBook Air as laptop due to battery issues on my Windows/Linux laptop to check if it is possible to use MacOs for QA and Web Development tasks as a totally blind user.
I have some questions regarding terminal use with VoiceOver.
For example:
Is it really possible to use Tmux with VoiceOver?
I encounter that it is hard to use it fast enough as I can do it in Linux.
Session titles and windows numbers aren't announced, for example: "Coding 0 ZSH".
