I am a Visually-Impaired Mobile Software Developer.
I suffer from severe ocular migraines that temporarily leave me completely blind.
My partner is also VI and she uses voice commands and screen readers to use her laptop and phone. Our experience is that screen readers still read out more information that needed and it takes too long to get the right information. I know that there are countless difficulties that others have and want help to identify them.
My company is developing an application that support general file management operations. We are making a conscious and concerted effort to be best in class from a VoiceOver accessibility standpoint.
One point of contention on our team is whether to confirm actions using the "UIAccessibilityAnnouncementNotification" after completing the action. We used the iOS Mail app as a guideline - after deleting an email there is no confirmation spoken by VoiceOver of the action.
Hello everyone, I have gotten interested in building universal apps for iOS and was wondering if someone could give me a few pointers on how to begin working on a program. I have registered with Apple's Developer program, but the documentation on their website seems very confusing without any knowledge of deciphering the technical jargon associated with programming. I'd be very grateful for a suggestion of something from which to learn the programming code, an accessible programming engine (i.e.
Hi, I really want to learn swift but as a compleate beginner I don't know where to start and I was hoping for some help and answers.
I don't know where I can learn fully, are there any Youtube Channels or tutorials anywhere, books, guidance tools, websites or apps which can teach me how to code in swift properly so I'm not just coding little stuff, I would like to be able to code a fully fledged Game, app or website or something by the end.

So for a while now, I've been having an issue with the Twitch mobile app where whenever you watch a saved video, the percentage slider will allow VoiceOver to swipe up and down to change it, but the slider's value immediately moves back to the position it originally started at, meaning that it is now inaccessible for Voiceover users.
I had an Idea to try to make card-io accessible. This is a library used in many apps to give an option to scan your credit card instead of entering in the numbers manually.
The issue is you still need to enter the 3 digit CCV number at the back of the card. So its does not save you much time.
How do people normally enter credit card details in apps? Memorise the digits and enter them manually? Copy and paste from somewhere? Is it normally a pain point? Would scan your card be useful?
Hello, I am having a really, really really hard time with X code 8 on the newest mac operating system. I can't use interface builder. I have searched this cite many times, but can't seem to do this.
Hi everyone,
I just wanted to share a method I’ve found for using Interface Builder that has worked really well for me as I’ve started learning how to use Xcode.
Hi, I'm a Voiceover and I don't find the ruler near to Scroll area in Xcode 9. I cannot make the connections of the labels, buttons etc. Can you help me, Please? Thanks!
I'm just wondering whether anyone on the list has been playing around with the Swift UI stuff in xCode 11? After many years away from development on the Apple platform(s) I decided to give it another look.
This could be the simplest question so far this year. I'm just getting started writing IOS apps w/XCode and Voiceover. I've got a project, selected the project navigator, and have searched high and low in the interface for the build settings. Can someone provide detailed steps for opening build settings?
Hi all!
I'm getting into app development with Xcode, and have started this by reading a book on Objective-C development. This way I was able to familiarize myself with this programming language, and have been exclusively developing applications for the command line for this purpose. Now it's time for graphical applications, and I've been playing around with Interface Builder for the last few days. At this point, I neither hate nor love it, but I think it can mostly be handled once you kind of figure out how things are done.
While I'm no longer interested in actively working on this, the Element library target in the current code is quite robust and may be of use to others at least as an example of how to safely interact with the accessibility infrastructure on macOS. Some features made available by the accessibility infrastructure are not wrapped by my code yet, and one of the things that I definitely want to do is reverse-engineer the custom rotors since there's no public API to consume those.
