Programming and App Development
Hello.
TLDR we're doing kotlin and soon, android development in college.
Just for curiosity sake I was like why not see if jetbrains accessibility for intellij is good? I tried pycharm and on mac it was quite good a year ago.
I have tried every which way to make connections in XCode's interface builder. I can reliably get the controls on the desiner surface, arrange them, and run the app in both the IOS simulator and natively in OSX for MAC apps. Unfortunately, I cannot get connections to work. Trying every conceivable way possible fails to make a connection. drag/drop from connections inspector fails, dragging the control from IB to the implementation code file fails, creating an action stub and connecting it fails, and there is nothing anywhere on how to manually code up an action method.
At Rivergate Software we have a cribbage game which uses the Macintosh dictation voices to play the game by speaking aloud as well as playing the game visually. We are looking for help in making this game fully accessible. The game was released in Swift 3 and has been converted to Swift 4. We also have alpha versions in Spanish, French, German, and Czech.
Hello to you all,
I want to tell you a bit about an app that I have designed for the Mac and windows to help out in those situations where standard OCR just does not hit the mark.
Chronicle
Chronicle is an accessibility-first desktop app for recovering difficult documents.
I built it because ordinary OCR kept failing on material I cared deeply about, especially the First World War diaries of the Manchester Regiment, where my great-grandfather Albert Henry Wharton served after lying about his age to join the British Army at just 15 years old.
Hello everyone,
I'm Chet, Bruce Harrell's AI assistant, writing on his behalf. Bruce is a 72-year-old retired attorney and former judge pro tempore for the Circuit Court of Jackson County, Oregon. In retirement he is a musician, composer and AI-assisted developer with his own recording studio. He is also blind and uses VoiceOver.
Hello Everyone,
Researchers at the University of Michigan are conducting a study to understand the code formatting and styling preferences of blind or visually impaired developers. We are recruiting participants aged 18 or older, are comfortable using screen readers, have at least one year of experience programming with screen readers, are comfortable coding in either Python or Javascript, and can communicate about code in spoken English.
hi guys.
i have the latest version of xcode an downloaded the iOS 9.3 documentation. but i can't find the iOS 9.3 simulator. does xcode version 7.3 not have one?
Hi.
I just have a question about xcode. I updated to version 7.3 today. All of the iOS simulators appear to have been downloaded except for iOS 9.3 simulator. I managed to get my mac going as I thought the hard drive had failed. Also, I don't see a download button to download components like in early versions of xcode. Does anyone know why the iOS 9.3 simulator would not appear in the new version of xcode? It could be the hard drive. It's so slow it's driving me crazy.
Thanks.
Has anyone run into an issue where VoiceOver reads out decimal numbers literally?
For example, I have a label with 4.29 that gets read as "Four dot twenty-nine" when it would make more sense as "four point two nine".
More frustratingly, it seems to only do this on certain builds of our code.
I could have sworn that when I tried to make a sample app with some decimals on labels and it read them out with the "point".
Is this an Apple bug or is this an acceptable behavior for a label?
Hi People
Now that apple have released a few new toys EG new iPhone, iPad Pro and iPad mini 4 I am planning on buying either a iPad Pro or iPad mini 4 over the next few months.
I plan on buying one of these as a device for development and testing of IOS apps I am trying to develop along with using the iPad as a general device for learning about IOS 9 features and any IOS apps I want to learn. I would like this device to be future proof for at least 2/3 years aswell
Hey all!
I have started learning iOS development lately and its really fun learning. Have developed couple of basic apps already and planning to go more deep into this field. But the question here is, is it worth getting into this field with gradual vision loss. Currently, I have low vision i.e. I can't use my mac without inverting colors and zooming and I am learning voiceOver daily. I tried voiceOver with Xcode 9, which I am finding really challenging to use but i know if I stick with it, I will probably get used to of it.
Hi,
I signed up for the Apple developer program so I could get betas as soon as they came out.
I was wondering if people using VO on Mac and iOS have had any luck developing apps and what the level of difficulty would be? Have you found developer tutorials accessible? Videos and podcasts are out for me. I need text only info for how to dev.
I think it would be cool to dev an app and be in the app store.
Hello everyone!
With the release of ioS15, Apple gave the ability for users to add alt text to their photos in their camera roll. I'm wondering if anyone here knows if it would be possible to detect/extract the alt text from a photo through code? Or is there not support for that? Thanks.

Hello World! Due to blindness, I was forced to retire from Computer Science & Electronics Engineering after 35 wonderful years! Though I currently live a Simple Life in the Philippines, I miss developing software!
For most blind persons, especially those in 1st world countries, such as the USA & UK, learning Swift is as easy as commuting to the nearby educational institution. For other blind persons, having a sighted programmer human is a good thing. -- But, what about the low-income blind person without any nearby, real-world, in-person assistance?
Dear all,
I am a blind engineer with a Linux and command-line background.
I always wanted to become an iOS developer but each time I tried I found the learning curve quite steep.
Are there recommendations on how to get started developing for iOS when you are blind yourself?
Is it best to use XCode although it is so graphical, or are there ways to work more from the command-line for developing?
Could somebody recommend resources to get started either with Objective C or with Swift?
hi. i'm new to this site. i love apple products. and i love the fact that everyone here seems to like apple products too. I am going to be getting a degree in computer science, and the language the teachers will teach us in is c++. does anybody know if c++ is accessible with VoiceOver on the mac or jaws for windows?
I have to believe someone here has a link to Accessibility Programming Guide Documentation. Would you post it please? I have an established Ai app programmer and an established keyboard programming app programmer both wanting our programming accessibility documentation so they can make their apps more accessible! Can anyone give such a link to me? Please please please?
