Programming and App Development
Hello everyone.
Hopefully all of you are doing great.
I have a MacBook Air with M1 chip and and trying to learn Swift UI coding language.
Rightnow I use Xcode and even though it has some accessibility problems; it seems usable.
But I am a newbie at coding and have no idea about the accessibility problems that I can encounter in the future.
So; should I purchase an iPad Air to make my learning journey easier and more accessible as a totally blind user?
Do you think just MacBook Air is enough or an iPad Air might be helpful in terms of accessibility?
I was wonering, is it possible for a blind gamer to independently create an accessible ios app for other blind gamers to play? I was wondering if I could talk to an app developer about this. Does anybody have any thoughts on this?
We heard from many people that smartphones are still too complicated for many users, and even the simplest apps are too complicated for many users. I have talked to assistive tech trainers and rehab centers that even SeeingAI is too hard to use for their clients. It sounded like the current apps are still too complicated for maybe more than 75% of this community.
hello.
I am learning C and C++
can IOS somehow support that?
I am experiencing visual distortion rather than blank or dark spots in my vision. I see wavy lines, and when I read the letters sort of “decompose” - pieces of them disappear, and I have to figure out what I’m seeing from context. Several months ago I was trying to read a label on something, and was using my iPhone magnifier app. To my surprise, the app not only made the print bigger, it corrected the “decomposition” of the letters and made the print look normal to me.
I am working on an iOS app which has voiceOver (speak out) and voice control (voice command) features. Currently this is working fine when uses turned ON both voiceOver and voice control in settings > accessibility.
Now client asked me, do same functionality even both voiceOver and voice control turned OFF in settings.
Please suggest me will apple approve this if I use third parties library code to work voiceOver and voice control? If Apple has no issue, then please tell me some good library names.
Many thanks.
Is there a way to get Xcode to read error messages (or warnings) as you are editing a source file? I'm trying to figure out the workflow for editing source code, and normally when editing you would see the error message in a colored block on the screen. as you type. Is there a way to get Voiceover to read this, or do you have to go to the issue navigator to check? That seems pretty inefficient. Thanks as always.
I'm trying to enable the "Allow VoiceOver to be controlled by AppleScript" option in the VoiceOver Utility under the General tab.
On a few friends' laptops it works, in that when you select the checkbox, you get prompted for an admin password. However on my laptop and a random scattering of other friends' laptops, the pop up never appears and so the checkbox can't be ticked.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
I've been through a number of releases on MacOS 13.x and now have upgraded to 14 and its still not working.
Hello all,
I would like to start working on the iPad for on the go. I’m looking for a text editor for primarily LaTeX document editing and possibly other coding languages. VoiceOver compatibility is a must and linking to GitHub would be very helpful.
Thank you,
A. Duse :-)
Hi, mac users and mac coders!
I'd like to know if I can code on mac for my other devices not paying to Apple, only for personal needs, certainly.
I don't have any mac device.
But if it's possible then i would think to purchase the relatively inexpensive one.
Thanks a lot for any reply.
Hello,
I run a small nonprofit that provides an after school and career exploration program for middle and high school students who are blind or low vision. For the last 3 years, we have offered a week-long program for students to learn basic coding. This year, the program will be held Monday July 15 – Friday July 19 at MIT in Cambridge Massachusetts. Anyone who is interested can contact me at: [email protected].
Hello AppleVis community,
I am a blind college student pursuing a bachelors degree in computer science. I am trying to find resources in regards to accessible coding environments on the Mac. Any information would be appreciated.
Thank you
Best,
Abduel
Hi all!
Unfortunately, I cannot figure out how to use VO in order to connect Storyboard user interface elements to code... I know it's supposed to work by using the Connections Inspector and using VO commands to drag an action to the assistant editor, but it just won't work for me... I'm also new to Storyboard, and thus curious if one has to drag the action to the AppDelegate.h or the ViewController.h file?
Thanks a lot for any clarifications!
Robin
Hi all,
How can I make a connection between the UIElement and the swift source code file.
I tried to drag and drop the UIelement into the Swift source code file but as I expected it doesn't work. I tried to drag the UIElement from the canvas instead of dragging it from the document outline the Voiceover said that it dropped but nothing happened.
And I tried to copy and paste the UIElement but it doesn't work also.
I am using the assistant editor and I am using the latest version of Xcode

Hey. I am thinking about creating an app for my blog. Are there any apps out there that can help me create an app for my blog? I would like the ability to send notifications to devices, such as an iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. And, are there services out there that doesn’t require me to code? Thanks.
Hi. I have a friend that would like to create an IOS App, and I was wondering if anyone could give any tips to help her get started. She doesn't have any previous experience with coding. Any assistance you could give would be great.
