iOS and iPadOS

I am wondering if those familiar with Workflow or similar apps know if it is possible to automate switching to camera mode. Ideally, what I would like to do is have a single icon that would take my phone from portrait to landscape, turn brightness to 100 percent and basically be ready to take a picture.
If I had someone sighted with me, I could then just turn voiceover off and hand the phone over to them, or leave it on and take the picture or video myself.

I am using an iPhone SE 2020 with the latest IOS version 14.4.1

I get many image forwards on my What app. application. As of today, I have
image recognition turned on in my VoiceOver Rotar settings. However, each
time I want to get the text out of the image, I have to open it, switch the
Rotar to Screen Recognition and turn it on to be able to read the image. Most of the time, the text read out of the image isn't accurate and unreliable.

Hello, I don’t think this can be done, but I am kind of curious. I love the voiceover activities, especially ones that I’ve created for example when I’m on a phone call. I have an activity set up to lower voiceover volume and turn off audio ducking so that way I can multitask while on a phone call.

Is there a GPS app that works with Voiceover and will guide the user to the nearest road or street, without the user having to point his/her phone?

Thanks!

Dear All

Unlike almost all apps discussed here, Nearby Explorer is not available in the South African app store.

I have written to the American Printing House for the Blind to ask them to make it available in the South African app store. We have pretty detailed FourSquare and Google maps here, so it should work well. I have received no response from them. I will write again.

Many of you might know that HBO has rebranded to call itself Max. Along with this, the company has released brand new apps for iOS and iPad OS. The app showed up late last night. Those of you who watch HBO's shows and movies by using the iOS or iPad OS apps should not download this app. The app has an inaccessible CAPTCHA.

With the latest Starbucks app update, the app crashes every time I try to access the Order button. I can reproduce this crash reliably, every time. This is a huge disappointment. Their app support team has been helpful in the past so I'll email them, and I encourage others to do the same. I don't have an email address for them so you just have to use the contact form from the app or website

Hi all,
When I record videos by my iPhone, my videos include Voice Over speech at beginning and end due to my control. Do you recommend some tips to avoid this?
Many thanks

I just thought I'd let everyone know that the updated version of WeatherBug Elite (the paid version of WeatherBug), version 2.0, has some accessibility issues. The bottom row of buttons are unlabelled, and the forecast display interface is a little difficult to navigate. I plan to email the developer, as this used to be a really solid weather app. Its main attraction for me was being able to access the text forecasts issued by the National Weather Service.

I figured this was worth creating a new topic. I know some are reluctant to upgrade to iOS 7.1 because of issues people have had with Bluetooth keyboards in the new version. A workaround was suggested in the blog comments, and I have done some testing with this workaround and find it very helpful. I will share what I've found here. First off, I will identify exactly what the issue is being dealt with here.

First off, I use my iPhone bilingually; Dutch and English. Dutch being the main language the iPhone is set to and English accessed via the language rotor. I had a bit of a shock after installing IOS 6. What happened was that the Dutch voice seemed to take on English pronunciation rules, giving me a rather muddled and odd experience. After doing a reboot the pronunciation seemed to be back the way I was used to, until I used an app that didn't support Dutch, so automatically defaulted to English.

Hello,
I have been an iPhone user for eight years. While I appreciate the accessibility of the iPhone, I have several questions regarding its design.
One issue I have encountered is the lack of accessibility for the back button. In various situations, I have found myself unable to access the back button because it's not accessible in various applications.
To address this, I have resorted to using screen recognition as an alternative. However, this method has limitations, as many applications do not support the back button through VoiceOver.

Hi all,
I have noticed that since the last ios update that on the Apple news app, the back key on news stories is missing. To get the back key back, I have to close the app and double tap the app again and the back key magically reappears. Has anyone else seen this problem?

Steve.

Good Evening,
Ever since I was in high school, I've used the Day One app to keep a journal.
At the beginning of 2025, I had a 9 day streak but then forgot to write one day, so lost my streak.
This resulted in me asking in their Facebook group if there was anything I could do to save it.
Indeed, there is. You can backdate entries! :)
My questions to this community are:
1. How do I do this with Voiceover
2. Which entries should I backdate to catch myself up to today?

Thanks in advance for any & all suggestions you can provide.

Realizing that many of my apps take lots of battery. If I deactivate background refresh of an app, will I still be able to hear audio?

What is the new background app refresh feature in iOS 7 for? In iOS 6, my apps still give me new notifications even if they are closed and not in the app switcher, so what is the difference between that and background app refresh? Thank you.
