iOS and iPadOS

Hi All,

Important. We will be switching off the IBM data service on October 31st. I realise it's earlier than November 14th but I would like to avoid IBM charging for a full month of data when we will only be using half of it. Please let anyone know who hasn't yet upgraded.

Latest update should be hitting the App Store in the next 24 hours.

What's New?

Hi Everybody,

These updates seem to come around quickly :)

Release 2.5.2 should be hitting the store soon.

The main update is full support for iOS14 widgets, in small, medium and large configurations.

The widgets can be customised for any of your favourite places, edit the widget and choose a place from the list. If you don't have any favourites then the last location you viewed should be in the list.

The widgets update on average once an hour, sometimes sooner, but out of our control - it's down to the device.

Hi All,

Another day, another WG release :)

This one has one new feature and a critical bug fix.

The new feature is that widgets now support current location. If you edit the widget you will find "Current Location" in the list. Setting this will mean as you move locations the widget automatically updates for the new location. A bit like our follow me feature.

You can still add other locations by adding additional widgets.

The bug fix is a critical fix to a crash that occurred when viewing UK or French weather alerts.

Hi All,

2.5.5 should be hitting the app servers soon.

This is an important update as it paves the way for subscriptions.

Please check the about page in settings as this will tell you which kind of subscription the app thinks you are entitled to - everyone should get premium.

The plan at the moment - to be tested in the next beta - is to automatically grant a life time premium subscription to users the app identifies as having previously paid. The mechanics of how this happens are still to be determined, but I will share with you when I know more.

Hi All,

Hope everyone is keeping safe and well.

Weather Gods 3.0.0 is going through a phased roll out. This means everyone should get the update over the next seven days, however, you can update sooner with a manual update.

This update switches us from a paid model to a subscription model and hopefully means the app can cover its data costs going forwards.

Anyone who has previously paid should receive a lifetime premium subscription.

This needs to be activated by:

Hi All,

Just a small update with a ton of bug fixes and a few features, changes.

1. The Weather Wheel is now part of the premium subscription. I didn't really want to do this but we have approaching 25,000 people on the free tier with an average cost of $1 per user per year. So far about 30 subscribers ... not a great business model !

2. You can choose to display wind speed using the Beaufort scale - it's in settings, under units.

Hi,

Dropping by to let you know we have released an update to Weather Gods.

There are many changes and bug fixes but the highlights are:

Hi All,

Hope you're all having a good Sunday!

Just released a bug fix update which addresses problems people have been having with:

- Series 3 and 4 Apple Watch issues, including Voiceover 'dead silence'
- Follow me not really following you. Now it should be working
- A bug fix with the humidity value being incorrect

Thanks

Hi All,

Hope everyone is keeping well.

We have a new release up on the App Store, which brings some new features.

Weather Station
You can now choose the type of weather station that Weather Gods queries for the latest observation. The default is Metar and this generally means airports providing the observation data.

We also have PWS which is a popular network for home based weather stations. One of our users has successfully added his weather station to PWS and now the data is showing in the app.

Hi All,

Just posting to give some more details about the new release.

As well as a lot of bug fixes, the main update is something which I am trialling, which is bolt ons. These will be subscription based features which I hope offer good value, the idea being is you can stop and start them when needed.

The first one is called the Extended Forecast and is priced at $1.49 per month and offers the following features.

14 day hourly forecast in the Pantheon and Weather Wheel, including the weather gods timelines. This is a global feature

Hi All,

Just a reminder to please update to Weather Gods 3.7 as IBM will be terminating our notifications very shortly. This includes the general notifications such as rain, sunrise etc as well as severe weather alerts. Please pass on the message if you know of other people who are on a version older than 3.7

The update switches from IBM to Amazon for notifications, so they will continue to work.

Thanks

Hi All,

Hope everyone is well?

I have just released 3.7 to the App Store with some new features.

Storm Threats.
This is for the USA only and gives you a comprehensive look at approaching storms or storms that are passing over, letting you know the speed and which direction they are coming from.

The information includes data such as whether the storm is tornadic, is rotating, has lightning, large hail etc. You can configure in settings (under severe weather) the radius that Weather Gods will use when checking for storms, from 25 to 100 miles.

Hi All,

Hope you're all having a good Sunday.

3.8 has been released with a number of new features.

Hi,

Just dropping by to say Weather Gods 4.0.0 was released last week.

The main update is Lock Screen widgets including a dedicated VoiceOver widget that reads out the weather based on priority.

For example, heavy rain would be read out before low UV. However, if it was a really sunny day and the UV was high then this is read first.

For those on the Apple Watch with the smart VoiceOver widget - it's the same implementation.

There are other Lock Screen widgets as well, all of them fully accessible.

Hi,

Just a quick update to say WG 4.1.0 has been released.

Unfortunately there appears to be a bug with the smart forecast on the watch, for which I can only apologise. The alternative is to use the Voiceover Smart Conditions in one of the other watch complication slots.

With regards to the update, the main points of interest ...

Hi All,

Hope you're having a great Sunday.

Just stopping by to say that 4.2.1 is now available.

There are a number of changes but the two significant changes are.

Weather Station Widget
You can have your own weather station on your iPhone or iPad, with the iPad supporting the extra large widget size, meaning a really comprehensive weather station.

Hi

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Just a quick note to say that 4.3.0 is now on the App Store and the main focus has been on fixing compatibility issues for iOS17 and watchOS10.

This means that all the small Home Screen widgets are Standby optimised and the modular style watch complications work with the new watchOS10 widget stack.

I also fixed lots of small bugs and layout issues with the widgets, complications and watch app.

Hi everybody,

Weather Gods 4.4.0 is now available with the following new features and bug fixes.
