iOS and iPadOS

What an invaluable resource... there's so much useful information here I don't know where to start!

I've worked as an Apple Computer consultant for over 30 years, so getting around the various OS's isn't too much of an issue for me, as a sighted person!

I'm a regular user of the Hulu Plus app for iOS. They recently updated the app and I am noticing that when I scroll through a list of episodes the length of the episode is no longer spoken. I wrote to them about this issue on Twitter and, to their credit, they responded within a few hours and indicated that they were not able to duplicate this issue. I commend them not only for such a quick response but for seeming to know what I was talking about and actually testing this based on my report. They advised me to delete and reinstall it, which I'm planning to do sometime today.

Hello!

Today a new version of whatsapp has been released.

This version solves many crashes of the app.

It's working right now!

Hi everyone,

I have not seen any posts on this, but yesterday VoiceOver turned itself on unrequested on my iPad Air. No problem, I went to settings and switched it off, but about a half-second later it switched itself back on. This was amusing, but kept happening. Reset did not correct it, and neither did restoring all factory settings. I asked Siri to disable VoiceOver and that worked.

Anyone else having accessibility features that turn on spontaneously? I have them all disabled in the accessibility shortcut.

I have the latest model of iPhone SE and overnight I updated to iOS 17.4.1. When I open my News app in the morning to scroll the main feed, I noticed that VoiceOver does not announce any of the headings above different sections, such as your areas of interest, publications you follow and so on. VoiceOver makes the clicking sound that it landed on a focusable element, but nothing is spoken. I’ve emailed Apple Accessibility about this but also wanted to share it with the group to see if anyone else was having the same issue.

Hi all, I have been hoping for 2 changes to iOS for a few ears now but they haven’t popped up by themselves so I thought I’d see if anyone else thought they would be a good idea to approach Apple about. 1. Increased target size. By this I mean when I move my finger around the iPhones screen I obviously hear the echo of what is under my finger however some screens for example within a folder don’t have much content on the screen so there is large areas of empty space which VO announces with a lower pitch tone.

Hi all, I am pleased to announce that as of today, the developer of ThumbJam has added a section on the user forum for Voiceover users. This section is called "Use with Voiceover", and you can access it by clicking on the following link: http://www.thumbjam.com/forum/12 I think this will be a great way for us blind and visually impaired ThumbJam users to learn new things and share our experiences. I've been playing with ThumbJam for a while, and I know I've still got a lot to learn and discover.

Hi. I discovered new english india voices and one of them works, though I suspect it is compact, but the Siri voices don’t work for VO when I double tap them nothing happens. I have tried the male voice with Siri and that works. Is there a workaround?

Hi everyone, hope you're doing well and staying safe :)
I'm currently using apps to listen to Internet radio like Triode and TuneIn.
However, I'm wondering if there's any newer more up-to-date or fresher apps that I should be aware for Internet radio, thanks for your help with this everyone and I can't wait to hear your recommendations :-)

I have read from some very very disgruntled people on Twitter that the newest update to the Lyft app breaks accessibility and you can not find the button to actually summon Lyft for a ride. I am using an IPhone 8+ and my operating system is up to date, 12.something.something I can never remember. Anyone experienced troubles like this in the newest update? The app store is nagging me to update but I don't obviously want an app I depend on constantly not to work. Thanks in advance.

Hey all!
I decided to download the news app by Savvy & try it. And it looked ok. But, when I tap the add button, it says there's a categories heading, but no categories are listed. I get a search field that I can type in, but when I hit search nothing happens. Any & all help would be apfheciated! Thanks in advance! :)

I've been using the Apple News app a lot recently. I've discovered after reading many stories that Voice Over suddenly starts to abruptly stop and start mid speech very frequently. Initially exiting the app and going back sorts it. Eventually it affects the whole phone. Turning Voice Over off and back on doesn't work. I have to reboot my phone. I'm running an iPhone 6 on IOS9.2 with Daniel UK voice. When it occurs I tried switching to Alex and the Irish HQ voice but the same thing happened. Anyone else experienced this? I haven't reported it yet.

Hi all!
iOS 9.1, iPhone 5s. Native News app stopped updating some of my feeds, I deleted all of them and tried to add them again, but search became unavailable. iOS 9.2 did not solve this problem.
Has anyone encountered that?
Thanks, Felix

This is exactly why I always wait to install new updates until I feel they work out the accessibility kinks. I thought we were there with iOS 14.3 but evidently not. I’m especially frustrated because many in this very forum encouraged me to update it, saying many accessibility bugs were fixed. That may be true, but within minutes of the update I’m already finding one of my most used apps much harder to use.

Hey Guys,
I have noticed something recently while reading articles on my iDevices. Some big name tech blogs and newspapers are including their own built -in screen readers. It stops your default voice over choice, and new voice takes over to read that specific article. For instance; I know that CNET articles do this.
While I truly do appreciate the effort some of these companies are taking. I find some of the voices excruciating. Very whiny and synthesized. Is their a way to keep these voices from taking over for my default selection, while reading that article.
