The above behavior has been present since iOS 11, and has been duplicated by several users with different configurations of iOS. It has manifested itself from text not being translated when the flash message comes up through iOS 12.1, to its current state as described.
iOS/iPadOS
A hold out from 12, this bug, at least, does have a workaround.
The title says it all. Very occasionally, this would happen under iOS 11, but it is more consistent in iOS 12.
When using a braille display, after modifying the layout of the Home screen (such as adding or deleting an app), pressing space with dots 4-5-6 no longer functions.
Since this behavior does not happen each time a VoiceOver Announcement/flash message appears, it's a tough bug to solve. I've had notifications from the same app freeze the braille display and phone in one instance and not the other. It also seems to happen to some people far more than others.
As well as pressing and holding Command, or Pressing Globe + M to bring up the keyboard commands window, pressing Globe + Control + option does so too. Pressing these keys combined with the left and right arrow keys should take VoiceOver to the first or last item, and so the two commands are in conflict.
On occasion, when navigating the device while wearing AirPods, the volume of VoiceOver speech will fluctuate, taking a sudden dip for several seconds, then coming back to where it was.
When using Braille Access with either BRF Files or Braille Notes, attempting to move a file crashes the app when no folders have been created.
When using drag and drop to rearrange the position of a shortcut in the Shortcuts app, VoiceOver does not provide meaningful feedback whilst dragging regarding where the shortcut will be placed when dropped.
Specifically, when in a folder of shortcuts and dragging a shortcut to a different position, as the shortcut is dragged VoiceOver announces feedback of its current position in the form of “Before Null” and “After Null”, where “Null’ should be the name of a shortcut.
When Live Captions are active, and someone is speaking, the first part of the text will come through and be readable. However, when further text arrives, the braille user is returned to the start of the line and must pan through content to get back to where they were. Tis is only being marked as "moderate" as Live Captions is still in beta.
If you have an alarm set to go off on the Apple Watch, a few seconds before it starts, the iPhone will wake up and speak.
The iPhone should not wake up or make any sound, as the alarm is set to use the watch.
When using the emoji search facility to find and insert an emoji in to a text field, when you double-tap on the desired emoji it will be inserted but rather than announcing the title of the emoji, VoiceOver will speak the last character that you typed in to the search field.
The title says it all.
On iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max, you can use the Measure app to instantly measure a person’s height from the floor to the top of their head, hair, or hat. (You can even measure the seated height of a person in a chair.)
The resulting measurement is displayed visually on screen but not accessible with VoiceOver.
This bug makes it so that a user cannot edit text efectively using the Monarch on iOS
This behaviour appears to be consistent across any native or third-party apps which have a bottom menu (tab) bar. For example, the App Store, iTunes Store, and the Music app.
- Ensure that VoiceOver is enabled.
- Open any app which has a bottom menu bar. For now, make it the App Store.
- Navigate to the Search tab.
- Place VoiceOver focus in to the search field and double-tap with 1 finger.
The onscreen keyboard should now be displayed.
If you attempt to use the VoiceOver rotor to drag a widget to the last available position on the Today View, you may find that focus will move to the Home screen and it is then not possible to navigate back to the Today View whilst still in Edit Mode.
After navigating to the Misspelled Words rotor option, you can easily jump to the previous and next misspelled word. However, if you press space with dot 4 to see the first replacement, though you get speech output, the replacement does not show up in braille. The highlighted word in question is the only thing shown.
When viewing a data chart in the native Weather app — for instance the wind or temperature charts for the day — the “Chart Details” VoiceOver rotor menu item does not work. Note the “Describe chart” and “Play audio graph” menu items work as expected.
When viewing a list of articles in the native News app, there are situations in which VoiceOver does not correctly report those articles which have already been read.
Specifically, if you read an article and then return back to the list, VoiceOver will report that it is “Unread” when you place focus on it in the list.
For articles on the ‘For You’ tab, you typically need to close the app via the App Switcher before VoiceOver will no longer report read articles as unread.
