Description of App

Turn your iPhone into a chiming clock. Plays one of 5 traditional melodies, not just Westminster.

Check our our video at http://youtu.be/nT-aHbWiT0U

Using the iOS notifications feature, Westminster Chimes converts your phone into an old fashioned hourly chiming clock, playing one of five traditional melodies:

• Westminster
• Whittington
• St. Michael's
• Canterbury
• Winchester

The chimes will play, even when the app isn't running.

Simple settings allow for complete customization:
• Separately set the chimes to play on each quarter hour
• Chime the hour number on the hour
• Play the chimes all day, or only during a specific time window.

You can adjust how notifications are displayed in the Notifications section of the Settings app. We recommend the following settings:

Notification Center: OFF
Alert Style : NONE
Badge App Icon : OFF
Sounds : ON
View in Lock Screen : OFF

Completely accessible for the visually impaired.

There is also a FREE "lite" version of this app available. It is also fully accessible with VoiceOver. The only difference between the paid and the lite version is that the lite version does not run when the app is turned OFF. For the FREE "lite" version, just search for "Westminster Chimes Lite" in the App Store!

Hello I have two versions of this on my ipods, the first one is the original and the second one is the update. You may find it interesting, I made a suggestion to the developer that there should be more chimes and he came up with the ones on the update which I prefer. This is my query, on the update, the option to customise the quarterly hour chime isn't there. I even asked my son to see what was on the screen and there isn't anything to change the hours and minutes. I did write to him pointing this out, but as yet nothing has changed. I don't know why you would want this in the notifications as it chimes anyway on the giventimes. Maybe, a verbal anouncement is reassuring.

This version now works under the IOS 6 running with Voice Over. It is still very accessible. What's New in Version 1.07 Fixed a bug with VoiceOver in iOS 6

Hi I bought this app when it first came out and everything worked fine at that time. I wrote to the developer to suggest more chimes which he took up, hence Wittington and St Michael, I have the original app on one of my ipods, which has the ability to change the start and end times, but since the updates, this facility has vanished and there is no figures to configure, I notice that today, I have updated it again and I can't find any improvement in the start and end times. I also put IOS6 on both ipods and the original Westminster Chime setting works fine. I shall contact the developer and ask him what the updates actually do. He is very nice especially when I suggested the extra chimes. One thing the latest update might have done, I had a chiming clock with the Wittington chime on it, and I noticed that the apps melody is not the same, but I think he's put that right. I'll ask him to put thee start and end times figures back in, though I have requested this in the past without success. If anyone has the original app going back to February, leave well alone!!!

As of yesterday, my start and end times were able to be configured just fine. Perhaps you haven't disabled the "All Day" chiming option and you need to do that in order for the start/end times to show up. Also, I don't have your particular problem, but I do have another. I initially set my chimes to have a start/end time, but, when I updated to iOS6, I am unable to change it back to "All Day". When I try to do this, the app seems simly to reset and not apply the changes.

Hi again I have just tried the following: I deleted the app from my iPod completely, went to the App Store wirelessly from my iPod and downloaded it, without going via my desktop. Ran the App and nothing doing whatsoever, tried switching every option off and on again, making sure that I had the all day feature on and or off, but as yet, no chimes at all, the only time I can hear anything is when I select which set of chimes I want, as Wittington. It's getting to be a bit of a waste of money so stuck for now. Thanks again.

Astra and Misty, That is very odd because I am not experiencing any of those problems that you both discussed. I have tried the method you have talked about Misty. I was able to change around my time to have the chime go off. Then after that I was able to set the All Day to come on if selected. For Misty's case I wonder if you delete the app. Reinstall it. Reboot the phone. Now see if the settings will work for you. As for Astra case. Did you make sure the Chimes is set to on in the Notifications? Just a thought. HTH

Hello yet again I did try the notifications and all I received was a spoken notification of the time it should have gone off. I don't want the time announced by Voice over though, I have tried everything else including deleting the appk, turning of and on all the options and "dead" nothing apart from the test of the chimes in the apps I think I'm on to a loser here. Thanks anonymouse. Do you think this is a problem akin to an iPod?settings.

I think you may have your notifications turned on. Go in to notifications turn everything off except sounds. They all have to be turned off. When they are, Your the app won't talk. Here is what it should look like. Notifications off. under alert style heading, select notification style. No alert selected. no alert will be displayed. Badges App Icon off. sounds on. view in locked Screen off. In other words, turn all notifications off except sounds. They must be on in order to chime. HTH. This should work for you. It is quite hard to get it right. Don't give up. Big R.

Well, well, well! You have cracked the best part. I had the settings as described but I turned the sounds off in notifications which is why I couldn't here anything. I did it the wrong way round by having it on in the notification area without sounds, I should have done it the other way round as you suggest. Big hugs Randy!!! One tiny point won't work for me, and I'm not particularly bothered by it is: It is impossible to set a start and end time for the chimes, as my son, home from university for the weekend, told me, without voice over as well, that after tapping on these buttons, the app closes completely, and no numbers are there to configure, so no waking up in the morning with it. Adam has to give this a try too. Thanks again and I expect you'll be glad to see the back of me for a long while.... though that is what this website is all about isn't it.

Hey glad I could help you. I can't figure out why you can't configure the start and end times. I have another idea, You may want to rnable do not disturb that will for sure stop and start the chimes Your right, We are all here to help. Glad you didn't give up. I will however take that big hug, though. Fighting a nasty coldd. Aw, pore big R.

Hello Tried your suggestion with the "do not disterb" on and off and nothing doing. I checked with my son whether there was anything on the screen after turning off the all day feature and tapping the start and end times sends you out of the app completely. Are any of these kind suggestions coming from an iPod Touch 4th gen user. I could try putting it back on my other iPod primarily for music, (not Westminster Chimes). Never mind, keep trucking!!! Thanks again another hug.

Try this suggestion. Open Westminster Chimes and tap about until you find the volume options. You will notice that it doesn't actually say whether the volume you prefer has been selected, but once you try the volumes out, it will say selected on each one. Choose which one and hope for the best, hope it helps a little.

Hello again. This works on my ipods 4 gen, and I have recently bought from a close friend, an iphone 4 and I still have the same problem in that I cannot set a start and end time in the settings as there is no time options. I have followed your instructions to the letter T, should I reinstall the app again from the app store directly. Thanks yet again Astra

Hi guys, this is not really related to accessibility but I downloaded this yesterday and while I love it, it's clear that the chimes are played on a keyboard, or am i wrong? I would have loved original samples from the clocks themselves; not hard to get I would ahve thought although I'm aware it could be some kind of copyright thing going on.

I just discovered that there's a lite version of this app. It will chime as long as it's running, and the full version can also be unlocked with an in-app purchase. The original version that you have to pay for is still available from the App Store.

Hello, I updated this app today and I cannot get it to chime on any of the chimes' settings. I previously couldn't get to the start and end times as they didn't appear on my new iPhone 5 at all and still don't and now there is two more sets of chimes which don't appear to work. I have followed the recommended settings but still nothing. Am I alone here?

Nice NEW features! Now I am able to get rid of the Chimes app. As I have used that along with this app together. Now I can get the same result in one app.

What's New in Version 2.1
Spoken time notifications. Users can choose to have the app speak the times instead of playing chime melodies.

The quarter hours are announce as
"It's a quarter past the hour"
"It's half past the hour"
"It's a quarter till the hour".

The top of the hour is announced followed by the time:
"It's the top of the hour. 10 o'clock"
