As of iOS 16 it is possible to customise the Lock Screen. This includes being able to add widgets to the screen in a number of available slots.
If you place the Activity widget in the top slot (the one shared with the date), VoiceOver will speak what is mostly meaningless information for the data displayed by this widget.
Specifically, if you do not currently subscribe to Apple One and go to your Subscriptions screen through the App Store or Settings app, and then select the button to view the Apple One bundle options, the text on the page is not read by VoiceOver and most of the UI elements are either unlabelled or have meaningless labels.
On occasions, you may find that the audible tone that is used by Safari to indicate to VoiceOver users that a webpage is loading may continue to play after the page has fully loaded. On these occasions, the tone will typically continue to play if you switch away from Safari to another app or to the Home screen.
When using a braille display to edit large blocks of text, you may find that the braille cursor and VoiceOver both become sluggish if you try to move the cursor to a different place in the text.
When new software is available for the HomePod it is installed through the Home app on iOS. VoiceOver users are able to access the notification in the Home app of there being an update, but the button to install the update is not accessible.
The 2 personalised music playlists new to Apple Music in iOS 10 are appearing on the “For You” tab as unlabelled buttons with no feedback for VoiceOver users on what they are (which is “My New Music Mix” and “My Favorites Mix”).
Typically when using the VoiceOver rotor, as you move to a control, VoiceOver will announce it's current status.
For example, move the rotor to Volume, VoiceOver will say "Volume, 70%". Or for hints, it will say "Hints, enabled".
On Voice however, it simply announces "Voice", whereas it should say for example "Voice, Alex".
It does announce the voice if you then swipe up or down to change it, hence it is only a very minor bug.
When sending an email in the Mail app, the device becomes unresponsive for up to 30 seconds--with the amount of delay appearing to be proportional to the age of the device. This appears to only happen when you send after replying to an email, not when sending after composing a new message.
In some situations, the Enhanced quality Siri voices may not be available for use with VoiceOver. This bug has been very difficult to reproduce, and only one member of our team is currently experiencing it.
Please note. This problem is not present even under iOS 16.0 unless running a firmware version older than 2.1 of the braille display. In cases like the Humanware NLS E-Reader where there is currently no version 2.1, this problem still persists as outlined below.
These commands no longer work. For Brailliant and Chameleon users, a firmware update to version 2.1 will address this bug. it is not available to the NLS E-Reader devices though which are also produced by Humanware.
With VoiceOver focus still on the address field, flick up with 1 finger.
You should find that VoiceOver will announce “Show Context Menu”.
If you double-tap with 1 finger at this point, nothing happens (this is one of the many places across iOS 13 where the “Show Context Menu” is present on the VoiceOver rotor's Action menu but does nothing (as the new long press functionality is not available on the UI elements concerned).
In Mail, the mark read/unread flags, set by rotor actions, do not stick. Move away from the folder or the Mail app, and the flags will have reverted to their previous state when you return.
