All buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability

There are some minor accessibility issues with this app, but they are easy to deal with.

This game is super weird, But super fun at the same time. Infinite possibilities? At first I thought it was a joke, because how can text based games have infinite possibilities? Then I started playing and to my surprise, the possibilities truly seem endless both to the game as well as your own character. I've only started playing mind you, but it looks promising.

By DMNagel on Sunday, January 5, 2020 - 20:02

The game is as long or as short as you make it, so obviously there is no save. When you close the app and reopen it, you will start a new game.

I was hoping to play as a house cat, but I guess you can only be human?

Even when you choose custon and write your own little intro, the characteristics are human.

Or do I need to write up a longer introduction?

I wrote something like this.

You are a housecat who was enjoying a nice nap, when you are rudely interupted by a sound.

The generater then said something like, "what are you doing in my house?"

Then proceeded to beat the intruder senseless lol.

It even had fists, now that's just too funny!

By DMNagel on Sunday, January 5, 2020 - 20:02

At least I was able to successfully play as a zombie. However, the generator made me do Yuman things in between. I was able to shoot people before eating them.

Hi. You can click on the App Store link in this post. Just make sure you do it with your phone. Does anyone know if a Windows version is available?

By sockhopsinger on Sunday, January 5, 2020 - 20:02

I typed in AI Dungeon in the App Store and that was the first app that popped up.

By DMNagel on Sunday, January 5, 2020 - 20:02

Can't name it something else.

By Sabrina on Sunday, January 5, 2020 - 20:02

A really nice text game. It is really having endless posibilities.
I love frotz because you type which is brilliant here and not just the button clicking thing. I seem to be able to do lots of things. I actually managed to fly. Just wanted to see what happened.

By The Tetris monster on Sunday, January 5, 2020 - 20:02

Sorry to ask, but could someone tell us about one of their adventures? I would really like to know what is actually possible with in this app as I didn’t have that much time to actually play the game.

By DMNagel on Sunday, January 5, 2020 - 20:02

having an ai generate things can really mess up your story. The ai doesn't really stay on track. It is an excellent idea, if only the ai could stick to the storyline. I was able to stay on track for a long while. I created a machine that allowed me to travel to other universes. I eventually came back to my own universe and bragged about it to other students in my class. I even asked a girl to travel to other universes with me And she agreed. We went to a dark universe and found a wall with a picture on it. I took the picture and we went back to our universe. Again, I showed the picture to the kids in my class and they were all impressed. Finally, I told the girl that she could keep or sell the machine. She said that she would think about it and I ended my game there.

This app sounds super cool! I'm going to try it out right now!

By J.P. on Sunday, January 5, 2020 - 20:02

I just saved the world as a flying cat. I stomped the head of an impeached orange man with small hands. Yay me!! Totally hilarious.

By Zoe Victoria on Sunday, January 5, 2020 - 20:02

I'm at the beginning of the game when it tells you to pick a setting, but no matter what I type it says to make a valid selection. I don't get it.

By J.P. on Sunday, January 5, 2020 - 20:02

Hi Zoe,
To start, type the number of scenario you want to start. 1 2 3 4, or 5.

So, I decided to build a time machine to travel back in time to get to speak to Nelson Mandela. I started out in my bedroom which was filled with modern technology. I decided to read a book about Nelson Mandela. The book was called Nelson Mandela, a life and it was written by Desmond Tutu. I then decided to watch a movie about Nelson Mandela. I turned on the television and the news said that there was another attack on a police station in Soweto. I then travelled to the future. I went to his house and the guard would not let me in as Nelson Mandela wasn’t allowed to be disturbed. I’ve tried to pay him $10,000 to let me in, but he said that I should wait until the next day when he can let everyone out of their houses. I then phoned Nelson Mandela and asked him what he thought of the situation. He said that he liked the idea of communicating with the past and that he would listen to anything I had to say. For those of you who know him well, this is something he probably would have said. I told him that the guard would not let me in. He was shocked. He said that he didn’t know how I could say such a thing, but he didn’t believe I was lying. I then proceeded To ask him out on a date. He agreed to meet me in the park. I drove to the park and he was there to meet me. He said that he was happy to see me. I asked him about his wife and about his imprisonment. The game knew the correct information. I then told him to duck off and he said that he was not interested in speaking with me anymore. I then called Walter Sisulu who apparently was still in prison. He came running out of his jail cell and said what the hell man? I need to go back to working on the farm. I asked him about his wife who he said had been killed in an accident while driving drunk and that he was diagnosed with schizophrenia. I then asked him about Nelson Mandela and this is what I got.
Walter Sisulu tells you that he met Nelson Mandela when they were both working on the same farm. He says that he told him how much he respected him and how he wanted to be like him. When Mandela heard that, he said that he wanted to marry him. That is the end of my story.

Hi all, I love text based games, so I decided to download this one and loving it so far. I just had a quick question. When you die, does the game end? Or can you still continue? When I was playing earlier, it said that I died but I typed in a command and it kept going. For example, I was a Russian spy who is carrying a gun and being chased by cops. I decided to shoot them and they shot me back And I died. But I got back up and kept going. But at the end of the sentence, it would say something like, you died, you lose. Or something like that. I don’t know if anyone knows what I’m talking about. Also, someone mentioned that the AI isn’t really good at keeping track. Well, that’s true LOL. I was playing a male wizard and I don’t know what happened but I ended up Meeting an army general as a female. And then It became an erotic adventure LOL. How? I don’t know. I just thought it was funny.

By DMNagel on Sunday, January 5, 2020 - 20:02

The game is infinite. It ends when you close the app, or decides that it's over.

By ming on Sunday, January 5, 2020 - 20:02

if someone can create a audio game similare to this one is good.
I just read some of the comments and think it is a great game, but, text base is not my intrest of game type....

By The Tetris monster on Sunday, January 5, 2020 - 20:02

I have an idea for someone to try out. I want to see what type of results you could get. Why don’t you play a sci-fi adventure where you are planning to build a chocolate factory with a robot Nelson Mandela. That’s just a suggestion. If you do end up doing this, please post your results here.

By The Tetris monster on Sunday, January 5, 2020 - 20:02

I tried to build a robotic version of Nelson Mandela. I succeeded, but he was a bit strange in the head. This stands out.
Nelson Mandela asks you why you called Oliver Tambo. You explain that you were wondering if you should kill Nelson Mandela since he seems so angry all the time. I then proceeded to ask him about his wife and he apparently knew nothing about her except that she was an excellent cook. He said that she had died last night but I managed to call her.

By X2 on Sunday, January 5, 2020 - 20:02

O ok thanks. That was another thing that crossed my mind but i wasn’t sure if that was possible lol.

By DMNagel on Sunday, January 5, 2020 - 20:02

You are a man who created a chocolate factory with a robotic Nelson Mandela. When you were done, you appointed your robotic Nelson Mandela as CEO of the factory. The robotic Nelson Mandela is now dead."

"So?" you say. "I'm not going to be running a chocolate factory any time soon."

"The problem is that you have no idea what you're doing," the voice says. "Your knowledge of robotics and electronics is rudimentary at best.

By The Tetris monster on Sunday, January 5, 2020 - 20:02

I don’t think Mandela chocolate Inc will be selling its products any time soon LOL. I wonder what caused his death. Thanks for trying that.

Hi guys. a new update was released allowing you to save stories, share your past stories and view your past stories.

By DMNagel on Sunday, January 5, 2020 - 20:02

You are working in a small office at Raccoon City Police Department. You have heard from chief Irons that the alfa teem was sent to investigate something in the outskirts of the city. You drink some coffee while waiting to hear back from the alfa team. "Hey, I'm here, what’s up?" you ask one of your subordinates who is currently standing by his computer screen and not paying attention to you or anything else for that matter.

> Ask have you heard from the alfa team yet?

"I'm sorry, but I haven’t been able to get any word on them. Have you been able to contact them yet?" The subordinate looks a little surprised. He then says, "No, sir. We haven’t received any word either."

> Go ask chief Irons if he heard something from the alfa teem yet.

You head to the Chief's Office. Chief Irons is sitting at his desk, reading a newspaper. He doesn’t look up when you enter the room. "What can I do for you, Mr. Nacht?" he asks.

> Ask have you herd anything from the alfa team yet

"Yes, I've been trying to talk to the Alphas about their mission and they say they’ve got no news on it." you say, trying to sound as nonchalant as possible while still being serious about it all.

> Ask any news

Chief Irons is a little taken aback by your statement, but he says, "Well, I'm not exactly sure what you’re talking about, but I’m sure the Alphas will tell you soon enough if they are indeed there or not."

> Go back to your office and wait for news

You sit down and wait for the news. It's a few hours before you get a response. It’s a short message saying that the Alphas are in fact there and that they’ve killed most of the infected in the area.

> Ask about the infected

"So, how many of those things were there? How many of those things were killed by the Alphas?" you say.

> Listen

"Oh, that's a lot of infected, but I’m sure you can imagine that it’s a lot easier to kill a lot of them than it is to kill one." The chief replies.

You are living in South Africa. You have created a time machine to go back and face Goliath yourself. You use the machine and arrive there. You see goliath calling out the Israelites to come to him, but you don't listen to him, you just shoot him! "I’m coming for you!" you shout as you shoot at him several times with your rifle, which doesn’t even slow down his speed at all!

> Use grenade

Grenade. It's the only thing that can stop a man who’s determined enough.

> Go back to your time and show people the video of you and Goliath on your phone

You head home, where everyone is waiting for you. They're very excited about seeing the footage of the fight.

> Send the video to the rest of the world and prove that Goliath was real

You send it to all of your friends, who are happy with it, but not everyone is convinced, some people still think that it's a trick or something like that.

By ironcross on Sunday, January 5, 2020 - 20:02

I will have to disagree about all buttons being clearly labeled. They are not. The menu button at the top left, and the restart button at the top right are being read using OCR, and are not labeled. Also, the contents of the menu are not accessible using VoiceOver, so it is not possible to access the stories and so forth that way.

Other than that; however, I second this recommendation. It is a great app and lots of fun. If you can get past the silliness that can sometimes arise because the AI is not perfect, you'll have some fun here.

By ironcross on Sunday, January 5, 2020 - 20:02

You can pick from 1-5, take a look at the prompt for more.

By DMNagel on Sunday, January 5, 2020 - 20:02

We can now create and publish our own settings for other people to play with.

Just made a love story all about a pink cat in the cloud world who loves pizza. It is a love storry and we eventually get married and his wedding ring is made of pizza cheese.

By DMNagel on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 - 20:02

When the AI responds with things you don't like, You can click on the greater-than sign just left of what do you do, which will bring up the help, alter, remember and revert options. Double tap on alter, Then swipe left until you get to the AI's last response. You will now see that the AI's response will be in a text edit field. You can then change this any way you want, either to keep the AI on track or to correct it on something. This is useful when things doesn't make sense or you just don't like the response at all.

Just tried to play a game with the latest version and VO isn't reading any of the game's text?

By Laura on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 - 20:02

After I choose genre and character, there’s a message saying, “generating Story” which is followed by a blank screen. Does anyone know if something in the settings needs to be changed?

By Trenton Matthews on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 - 20:02

I sadly can confirm with the latest update, the IOS version of AI Dungeon has this same problem on IPad OS.

I’l have to check this on Android as well, just because.

Update!

No Android screen reader issues here. Looking at the AI Dungeon app for Android with Voice Assistant at this moment, and using a Logitech keyboard too!

It's probably do to the icon text change they did which I saw among the change log.

By Trenton Matthews on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 - 20:02

As of the latest update to AI Dungeon on IOS, it's all fixed now.

In fact, all of the buttons, are now
actual buttons with proper labels on them.

Very proud!

By DMNagel on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 - 20:02

When you open the app for the first time in the day, everything will seem to be accessible. However, when you close and reopen the app, things will return to its normal inaccessible state. Not sure why that is. Perhaps we get a glimpse on future updates? Try it and you will see.

By Trenton Matthews on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 - 20:02

Yep?
Those who play with in the AI Dungeon, will indeed have to watch for further updates to its iOS application (myself included).

So uh, ... back to the web or it’s Google Play Android brother for now (as mentioned earlier a few posts back).

PS. Hopefully the folks at AI Dungeon come across this thread. If not, yall probably want to catch them on their Discord server and/or sub-reddit.

By DMNagel on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 - 20:02

The app now works much better. I only wish they would add premium as an in app purchase.

By Trenton Matthews on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 - 20:02

Finally!

Yes, I do agree it should be an in-app purchase. Not everyone does the patreon thing...

By Zoe Victoria on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 - 20:02

When I start a story, the command buttons just disappear and I can't activate them. This happens both inn the app and on the web.
