Seeking Expert Opinions from VO Users

I'm sighted, and I write about assistive technology a lot--mostly on my blog (link at end) but I'm hoping to branch out to other publications. I'm too old (and memory-impaired) to learn VoiceOver. I want to include VO-relevant info in my work.

I recognize all too well that disabled people are the uncompensated alpha testers for a ton of technology. I would be delighted to pay for this hard-won expertise or contributions to AppleVis' operating costs.

About Jesse the K: I have physical and mental impairments, and I'm a big-tent disability/accessibility advocate as well as a lifetime Apple user. (Older readers may even remember my work at Raised Dot Computing, an Apple II software publisher of BEX, TranscriBEX, etcetera). You can read my AT blogs at

I’ve done some writing about screen readers, iOS/macOS VoiceOver in particular. Looking to expand on this. You can find some of my previous writing and contact info at petersh.com.

Hi Jesse. It's good to see you over here as well. Now that you mention your previous affiliation with RDC, I think I remember hearing your voice on their newsletters. Anyway, I'd love to contribute as well. It seems we're on the same journaling platform, so feel free to send me a message over there. I just got my first iPhone, and am going for some formal training on it beginning next week. More over at my Dw journal. I just started taking more courses for study, and have a rather busy social life. But I'm tracking things and will get back to you shortly.

I've used voiceover and screen readers all my life so if you can explain what you'd like me to write about, I can try my best to do so.

Hi Jesse. So you're the one who made BEX? Wow! I cut my teeth on that technology when I was a kid at the New York Institute for Special Education, and look how far we've come. Thank you for being one of our pioneers. I'm currently on the home stretch of a series on mobile screen reading, with a focus on Voiceover. These may serve as writing samples. As you've already realized, I operate at a slow pace.

@TheBlindKind, I'm not solely responsible for BEX -- but I was delighted to be part of the BEX team. It was an amazing time to be pioneering -- thanks to the blind explorers who pushed us to make a more usable product.

It’s an honor to thank you personally. You should be as proud of your work on BEX as an architect is of a masterful blueprint.
