Voice-over having trouble navigating ads in safari in iOS 11 .2

One thing I’ve noticed running the newest version of iOS 11 is that voice-over seems to be having more trouble navigating ads and images in Safari, in some cases freezing up entirely and making me Press the home button to exit out of Safari and reload the webpage..
I don’t know if it’s because the websites I visit regularly are using different kinds of adverts, or because of some change in the software but I don’t remember it being this bad in previous versions of iOS.
Please post if you’re also having the same kind of problems and any solutions you found to them.

Same Problem

I am experiencing the same problem. To get past the ads, I do one of two things: 1) Flick up once with three fingers to get past the ads. 2) Select "static text" in the rotor and flick down as many times as necessary to navigate past the ads. By the way, you may need to add static text to the rotor in the VoiceOver rotor settings for the second method to work.

depends on website

Hi. I haven't really noticed much change. Personally, I think it depends on the websites, and also the advertisers. Some ads have a button to get rid of them that's seen by voiceover others don't. I've noticed some websites refresh every 2 Sec. on my ipad. And it's all because of annoying ads! I mean, I know people have to pay the bills, but come on advertisers could you make your ads less annoying, or confine them to their own space on the page?! I can think of 1 app that does this & that's OCR.

Here's what I do a lot of times. First, I try the scrub gesture, and bare in mind it may take a few tries for it to work. So be patient. The other thing also has to do with the rotor & I found this out by sheer accident! I've seen this a lot in the Youtube app, because that's where I listen to songs if I don't have them on my ipad or can't get them. But sometimes after the advertisement that's played before the video has stopped, and the video is either loading or playing, I'll get Youtube related ads for the free music app or Youtube Red for example. And whenever an ad like that comes up, if the rotor isn't already there, I spin it until I get to actions. I then flick down until I see an option to close the ad. Also, if there's another way to view the webpage, I suggest trying that as well. For example, I use Google's search app to view webpages at times, because I get a more stripped nown version of the page. That's something you should try. I've had my ipad since ios. 9.3.3 I believe. And there've been issues with ad-related issues & Vo. not playing nice. Honestly, I think a lot of the ads just trip up voiceover if you know what I mean. Hope these things help!

to the person who suggested static text

To the person who suggested static text, I just want to give a big thank you! I'd've never heard of doing it that way! I've seen the option in the rotor, but was clueless on its purpose. Thans again!
