Has anyone tried to use IOS 11 to read subtitles in films where there English subtitles? I have had really no luck getting this to work. I have tried this feature with YouTube vidios and on the PBS app. I have the rotor setting to speech on that media content thing that's new. I can however get VO to read the closed captioning for the deaf but not subtitles. Please post if you have had any better luck than I've had. Thanks very much.

I've not had any problems getting it to work. Try flicking around the screen a bit after you turn it on? Again, working with netflix as my test case.

TO my knowledge, the feature

TO my knowledge, the feature reads closed captions, rather than subtitles. So if a movie doesn't have closed captions available in English, the feature won't work.

Works farely well.

It works well with Most netflix and iTunes films. I've also gotten it to work with Prime. Most iTunes films I've tried are good but a few I'm out money on. My luck has been a bit different then the other person who commented. I have more luck when it actually lists subtitles instead of closed caption. I've tried it with a few other video apps, mainly Shudder and Funimation with no luck. Youtube doesn't seem to work either. It's great when it works and Netflix is by far the best experience in my opinion.

Another note.

Sometimes with Amazon Prime you have to check the audio and subtitles section. It will set it to auto which for some reason turns them off. Make sure English is selected.

Youtube and other apps like Crunchyroll

Hi. I find that ironically it will work for youtube on mac but not iOS whereas most websites don't read them on the mac, like Netflix and FunimationNow which both work on iOS. I used to think that if the subtitles can be disabled they are readable but then there is Crunchyroll which doesn't work on either even though the subtitles can be disabled. I'd really like to know what is it that makes them work so we can better advocate for services to have developers start integrating them. I'm sure it's not that hard as long as they are not in the video itself which is usually less professional anyway since you can't change their appearance. Would love to hear any info on this.
