Help, characters being entered twice when using a bluetooth keyboard

Hi,

I have two Bluetooth keyboards that I use from time to time with my iPhone 5s running IOS 10.1.1 These are:
1. Mobile Bluetooth Keyboard for Nexus 7
and
2. Ultrathin keyboard folio m1 by Logitech.

I have used these two keyboards for over a year now with great comfort and accurate typing. This past week I have discovered that I can no longer type in any edit field on the iPhone without the characters being doubled even though I am carefully typing only one character at a time.

Since the same problem occurs with both keyboards I am assuming that this is an IOS issue.

When I disconnect the keyboards and use the onscreen keyboard the characters type in perfectly without any doubling. Dictate also delivers perfect typing.

Can anyone suggest what the problem is?

I have the following settings under "Keyboard" under settings>General:
Eglish UK
Autocapitalisation on
Autocorrection off
, shortcut off Is this a typo in the keyboard settings dialog? Surely it should say "period" or "full stop" off since it toggles the automatic insertion of a full stop with the space bar? Anyway, I have it turned off in case it might interfere with the keyboard.

All comments and advice very welcome!

Sincerely,

Cearbhall E. O'Meadhra

Try unpairing the devices turning your phone on and off and pairing them again. Also make sure the batteries aren't low by checking them in the battery widget. I have noticed with my bluetooth keyboard that often takes a few seconds for my phone to notice it's on. It didn't used to be like this before and I think that IOS 10.1.1 has some Bluetooth issues.

Actually, you may not need to re-pair your keyboards. Just turning off Voiceover and turning it back on has seemed to work for most of us who have experienced this problem. It has been reported to Apple, and personally, iOS 10.1 seems to have reduced the problem for me, but I don't think it's completely solved.

Oh, power-cycling your phone should also help. This, of course, restarts Voiceover.

Hope this helps.

Hello.. I have the same issues too.. I was using a random brand of Bluetooth keyboard with my iPad pro 9.7, and this keeps happening. SO I bit the bullet and purchased the original Apple smart keyboard cover. This too happens from time to time, running ios 10.1.1. I power the ipad down and back on again and it works. Not as often as it could be, but annoying when it does.. Havn't tried switchon VO on and off, will try that next time. Hope ios 10.2 will solve all the issues.. Thanks..

Turn Voiceover off and back on again quickly by triple pressing the home button. That has always fixed this problem on my iPhone 6+ running iOS 8 through 10.1.

Hi there! I've had the double typing bug using BT keyboards ever since IOS 8, but I only recently found a work-around. If you toggle VO off and back on, the problem goes away, at least for a little while. Every time there's an IOS update, I find myself hoping that this bug gets fixed, but so far, no such luck. I'm just thankful that there is a way to get around it in the meantime. Good luck, and I really hope this helps you.
