How do you deal with CAPTCHAs?

Hello everyone. As you may know, there are some websites that do not offer an audio option for CAPTCHAs. How do you deal with image-only CAPTCHAs? I usually save the image then get the Tap Tap See app to read it for me, but ever since it has recently become free I find they don't do that all the time anymore, and also the descriptions have become somewhat lacklustre (but we'll save that rant for another day). So what's your process/method?

Thanks!

I feel your pain!

I feel your pain! And I don't like audio captchas also because I can't go back & enter the numbers or letters or whatever. I hate 2 tell u this but it may b better 2 ask for a sighted person's assistance. I hope voiceover will someday read captchas. Or u could contact the site directly, it may not do much but @ least u tried & managed 2 get in some catharsis in the process.

Are there no plug-ins for Safari for this? Someone knows something? Chrome has some, but I hate the browser. It is annoying. :(

I Can Do *Some* Audio Ones

I don't own an i-device so don't have that app, and I've never come across a Safari or Chrome plugin that solves these things. That being said, I have gotten some of the audio CAPTCHA's to work and let me pass through. In addition, I kind of like the looks of Google's new CAPTCHA with the checkbox. I almost had to do one of these, but got side-tracked and haven't had occasion to go back to the site in question. But I will soon, as it is a new forum that was set up through my church. Just as an aside, the service that hosts my website lets users choose among text-based and visual-only CAPTCHA's. I have all mine set to text-based for obvious reasons, and thus far I've not come across any of the visual ones on the platform itself or any of the sites which are hosted there. I'll admit I'm opposed to audio CAPTCHAs, because people who are deaf or hard-of-hearing can't use them.

Rumola works in Safari but I would recommend Chrome for that

By Adam Samec

Hello,

Rumola is a plug-in for Safari that does CAPTCHA recognition for you, but it has some issues I've described in this comment on its AppleVis App Directory entry, so you might want to use it in Google Chrome instead, since it works fine there, and still use Safari for all the other pages you visit.

There is also another, recently created plug-in for Google Chrome called CAPTCHA Be Gone which works by automatically searching the CAPTCHA and placing the recognized code in the clipboard after pressing a keyboard shortcut. Although, it's much more expensive than Rumola. The developers are allegedly already working on mobile and desktop versions for Safari.

Kind regards
