VMWare Fusion and partitions

By Crysania, 27 February, 2015

Hello everybody,

I am thinking of running Windows with a virtual machine with VM Ware Fusion. Do I need to create a partition for the virtual machine with Disk Utility? If so, how large should my partition be? How much ram does a virtual machine require?

Thanks so much.

vm ware fusion and partitions

Hi, you can just install vmware-fusion like a normal app. You don't have to create a partition. Vmware-Fusion stores your windows data in your documents-folder and there in a special folder called vmware. From a windows-persppective, it looks like a physical OS. RAM CPU etc. will be configured by vmware-fusion itself within the process of installation. The only limit is your disk space.

Good luck and best.

FUsion and Partitions

The only reason you would have to deal with partitions with Fusion is if oyu wanted to use Bootcamp with Fusion. I havn't tried this approach yet, but from what I've heard, you get the best of both worlds. If you want to boot natively into Windows, just restart your Mac into your Bootcamp partition. If you want to use Fusion, just allow Fusion to access your Bootcamp partition and it will treat the partition like a virtual machine. It's kind of cool, because you get the best of both worlds. I need to try bootcamp, but I don't really have installation Media, just a couple of Vm's for XP.

Thank you for your timely assistance

Thanks you guys for responding so quickly. You have answered my questions. I may have more questions as I do the install later today. So if there is anything I should remember from an accessibility perspective, I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks

Thanks for your post, Chris. Your comment has answered all of the questions I came here to ask, or get answers for. However, now I have a new question. Where can I get guidance on how to do the "Fusion Dance(using Boot Camp & partitions)"? Thanks for everyone's time that's contributed here!
