Accessible DVD Ripper
I have a collection of movies that I want to convert to files on my computer. I currently have a Windows computer, but am thinking of making the switch to a Mac soon. Is there any kind of DVD ripping software that exists for the Mac and/or Windows that is accessible with JAWS or VO, respectively?
Thanks in advance!
Hi, I have had very good luck using Handbrake on my mac. The windows version does not seem speech friendly at least with Jaws. In Windows I use Imtoo dvd ripper. It is not particularly speech friendly but works well after you memorize the keyboard commands. I usually like to convert movies to mp4.
I have used Windows for years and years and that is the first type of software I researched when I began to use Mac OS X. There is not a single piece of software that compares to what I use for Windows. I replied to another similar post and I will link to my reply once I find it. Basically, I use either PowerISo or UltraISO in conjunction with SlySoft AnyDVD HD to copy the full sector-per-sector disc to an image [not specifically the ISO format]. I use SlySoft AnyDVD HD because, regardless what anybody and everybody says, it is nothing less than essential and imperative to run that in the background before you insert the disc and launch whatever software you choose. There is simply no point copying a DVD, HD-DVD or Blu-Ray without it. DVDFab Passkey will also work but I prefer AnyDVD HD. Although the nature of DVD-V content is lossy for the most part [Dolby is AC3 and AC3 is a lossy audio format; MPEG anything is lossy as well and MPEG is the video codec used on DVD discs], I want the entire disc so I have what it takes to do whatever with it afterwards if I so choose. Handbrake once upon a time included a subset of what AnyDVD HD or Passkey includes but it has since lost those capabilities. For optical disc authoring the RIGHT way, you will want to use Windows.
