Hi all,
My name is Felipe Oliveira, and I'm the developer behind Dungeon Scoundrel.
Some of you played Dungeon Scoundrel in the past and had a great time. I spent some time making it 100% playable with VoiceOver so blind players could face the 12 dungeons.
I recently launched an update with a few new features, but mostly focused on the new art style for the cards.
If you're new to the game, you can download it here: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/dungeon-scoundrel/id6756222423
I'd love feedback on the new changes, but that's not the reason for this post.
I'm working on a new game with blind players as the main audience. Soon I'll have a playable version on TestFlight. It's a game like Wordle, but for musical notes. I'll share more details later, but let me know in the comments if you'd like to help test it.
I'm also looking for ideas for new games for the blind community:
- Is there a game you'd like to have with 100% VoiceOver support?
- Is there a game you used to play but can't play anymore?
- What about multiplayer games? I was thinking of an asynchronous, turn-based game where each player makes a move and passes the turn, then the other player takes their turn when they're ready, and so on until the game is over. Would that work for games like checkers or chess? What else could it work for?
- What about a "choose your own adventure" type of game with narration and some RPG elements?
Tell me what you all think!

Hi! First off, I really enjoy playing Dungeon Scoundrel. Thank you for making it accessible, and for planning to make your future games accessible as well! This Wordle with musical notes game sounds intriguing, I'd love to test when it's ready. As for other game ideas, I really like your idea of multiplayer games where you can take your turn in your own time, I think this could work for lots of game types, I've seen word games, card games, trivia games and board games that work this way but I bet there could be other types of games like this as well! Maybe even combining the choose your own adventure idea with multiplayer, where players alternate making choices to keep the game progressing? Just a thought. As for other types of games, I think it would be cool if we had a game like Pokemon Go where we aollect creatures, level them up, trade and battle with our friends. We used to have a game that was pretty accessible called Mobbles that was like this, but unfortunately it's no longer available. Overall I think multiplayer games, especially those that don't need to be played in realtime and those that can be enjoyed by both blind and sighted players, are what I'd be most excited to see at the moment.
Re: thoughts
Hey Paige,
The musical notes game is being reviewed by Apple and should be available for testing in a day or two. I'll let you all know when it's ready.
I loved the idea of a multiplayer "choose your own adventure." I'll think about how that could work. I think I have an old project in an old notebook that could fit, and I'll get back to you once I sketch it out more.
US Football
If you want to be very popular do a game not managing them but playing it. There was one for windows a long ago. I had not seen OK listen to any game that is playing football. I miss playing it.
Re: US Football
Do you remember the football game name or how it used to play?
To be honest, I never played American football game before. I’ve played soccer games like fifa.
I have a soccer game on Reddit, but it is hard to play with voice over because you need to drawn a path so your soccer players move in that direction to kick the ball
Accessible Pinochle and Bridge?
Hello, if you are developing a game, I would love an accessible Pinochle game. There are a few for IOS but none of them really work and aren't updated it seems, or if they are updated, it's all visual improvements. I used to play Pinochle a lot with braille cards. There are many different variations on the game, so it would take some strategizing and a lot of customizable options. Example, I've played with a Run being worth 19 points, and 13 points, and some people open at 25 or 20. Thanks for being willing to get feedback from the community. I'd also like to learn how to play Bridge, but that's a very large undertaking. But if you could make a bridge game with training and rules explained, that would be cool. Again, there are tons of variations of it.
Thanks, Dave
Re: US Football
If I recall each play had a number. You press the number and the play started same for defense. It had 4 quarters. It was base on sound.
Re: Accessible Pinochle and Bridge?
Thank Dave for the idea and comment!
I actually have a website project with a collection of card games called https://cardswith.us. It's very much in alpha right now, and I haven't made it accessible or 100% VoiceOver-friendly yet, but if the community is interested, I could add support.
The goal is to have single-player card games like Solitaire and FreeCell, and multiplayer card games like Hearts, Poker, and even Pinochle (which is the first time I'm hearing about it).
The problem with multiplayer games is that they need a server to run, and the server has a monthly cost. I'm planning to offer a subscription, something like $2.99 per month, just to cover the server bills.
Would that work for the community? I know nobody likes subscriptions, but that's the only way I can keep the multiplayer games running without paying out of my own pocket.
Football
If you did so for it and it could play with others you might be surprise. I would pay for it. Think about it.
Re: US Football
I think I found it: It was called NFL by the late Jim Kitchen.
I found a website that lists all his Windows games: https://www.agarchive.net/pages/devs/kitchensinc.html
He passed away in 2015, unfortunately.
I will try to see if I can understand how the game was played and see if I can get inspired by it.
Re: Football
Hi Holger,
I'm done with the game prototype and I've uploaded to my website at https://audiofootball.gatunogames.com/
If you have a chance to try it out, I'd love to get your feedback on it. I'm using an AI voice to narrate the game, but Im not sure if that was a good choice or I should only have the voice-over narrating the game.
Could you test it and let me know?
PS: Anyone in this forum is welcome to test. This was made for you all.
Game
I lost. I tested it on my window PC. I will send the link to my iPad 9 with iOS 27. Cool. When the game ended the status of the game can made more sounding good. More interaction between the 2 anouncers. Do not know but can comercials be added. Also the vo.volume of the funs up when score. Also the wishel when the play is over. Overall this is cool. It would be fun to play against some person. Would not mind kick some applevis back. Again this is a great beginning. Will let you know when I test in my iPad 9 later. Great job.
Game
Thoughts instead of the name you gave them, how about just the cities? Like Chicago. If Also more plays? Hope people test it. Good game it me mad that I lost.
Re: Game
I did some of the changes you suggested and updated the site.
Windows
By the way it works well with windows 10. It does not affect JAWS. Suggest you also post it on the none apple link. People who uses windows might like it. Thanks.
New Farkle game
Hello, this is Kevin Brinckman if you’d like to have some ideas, I do have some great ideas however I’m wondering if I can find your email for the dungeon scoundrel so I can send feedback or suggestions for new multiplayer games especially if I like the game Farkle and I was thinking you can add XP for that and leveling up. I know Dice World has it but I wanna see more combinations for dice rolling such as four of a kind plus a pair or two triplets and as well as having three pairs worth 1500 points and stuff like that. Also, for the characters, mayb say something after you bank your score or if you Farkle or if you roll and you get something really good. They would say something after you get like a hot dice or something so I’m wondering if you can make something like that but multiplayer there’s not many Farkle multiplayer games even though the main game Farkle from Dice World is not up-to-date and it hasn’t been for a long time also I’d like to see you bowling or golf or even wheel of Fortune multiplayer or even a trivia game where if you get question wrong you pass to the next turn but you’re in 100 points each time you answer a question correctly or a trivia game why do you have to spin the wheel and you don’t know how much your points are worth when you answer a question correctly until you spin the wheel before the question. That’s my idea as well. And as well as that could you make a multiplayer God manager based on Percy Jackson, but endless? Where are you battle monsters or Demi gods? Of your own? And it would choose your you would choose your godly parent by answering a quick personality test quiz for the game. If you like those ideas, please let me know in this email. I’m going to send you. I don’t know your email yet for sending comments and stuff, but maybe I can send it to you via email. If I get your email once we do or once I do post this idea so also the price is right maybe find the price is Wright sound effects for the Trivia and the Farkle game so that way it’s realistic and also the Trivia games and maybe make the price is right game would be amazing
Re: New Farkle game
Hi Kevin, thank you so much for taking the time to send all these ideas! I really appreciate the feedback. You can reach me directly at [email protected] anytime, whether it's suggestions, feedback, or anything else.
I'll think about your ideas and see what I can plan. To be honest, multiplayer games are a lot harder to pull off. It's not just the technical side. A multiplayer game needs enough people playing at the same time, and without them the game can die pretty quickly. So for now I'll be focusing on single-player ideas first.
That said, I'm curious about your Percy Jackson battle idea. How do you picture the battles working? For example, would they be turn-based, where you pick attacks and powers each turn, or more real-time action? And what kinds of abilities would you get from your godly parent?
Thanks again, Kevin. Talk soon!
Felipe
Complex Board Games
I'd love something along the lines of a modern board game. We get a lot of classic board games made accessible, but I'd like to see something with more complexity and challenge. Given that you made Dungeon Scoundrel, I feel like you already have an idea of what I mean.
Personally, I don't care so much about multiplayer and would be happy with something solo. I also prefer strategy over luck. Just my thoughts.
Re: Complex Board Games
Strategy board games are one of my favorites types to create.
But I have a hard time designing that can work without visuals.
For example, I have a card game called Song of War that you drawn cards and place characters in a board to fight the enemy. You need to know where the player is placing and moving their characters, so it would be hard for me to adapt that idea to blind players.
Do you think I could remove the board character placement and moviment and have only the card drawn part could work?
Do you know about marvel snap? It is a card game where you drawn the cards and place in one of 3 locations and the side with more power wins that location.
If you compare to dungeon scoundrel, it is like we have tree rooms and each turn the dungeon put a monster in one of the rooms and the player must place a hero to fight them.
Would that work?
Phase Ten and turn based games
So I really would like to see an accessible phase ten game. and more turn based games where you dont need to be online at the same time. I really like those.
Re: Complex Board Games
I think it depends on how exactly the board is laid out and how movement works. It takes more careful thought to design how to convey the information to non-visual players, and it might require thinking outside the box. Maybe at least give it a try and don't give up on adapting a more spatial game. Without knowing the details of how it works, I'm not sure how easy it would be. Could you give a simple example of a situation from the first game, and maybe I or others could give you ideas?
I'm mostly coming up with grid-based games because they tend to be easier to represent to a blind player. Chess is a straightforward example. Ideally, you can drag your finger around the screen and hear each square, its coordinates, and what piece is on that square. I hope I'm encouraging rather than discouraging you haha.
If you want to stick to decks of cards with limited areas to place them, that can be great too of course.
Rpg sounds nice
Choose your own adventure game would be nice along with it. I’d like an accessible cooking game, where we actually cook. You know with Music sound effects and all just my thoughts. And also, we are ingredients and stuff like that. There a veryfew available for ios
Rhythm games
I would like to have Rhythm fighting games or shooting games.
RPg sounds nice
Can you build an accessible cooking game, where we actually cook by adding ingredients, chopping vegetables, meat, et cetera et cetera it would be nice
Mystery audio adventures
We need more mystery audio adventure games. Where we are placed in a scenario where we need to explore areas and solve puzzles, such as coming across locked doors that need to be unlocked and locating keys to unlock those doors. and other puzzles like that. that need to be solved in order to advance in the game
Re: Mystery audio adventures
Love that idea, I was writing down something like that earlier today
Game idea
I would like to see a game similar to the old Ear Monsters game, which was released in 2013. You shot monsters on either the left or right of the screen, and hit bombs before they exploded. Gameplay was intense, but it was a game I enjoyed over many hours.
A baby caring sim?
My baby sim was removed from the app store, but perhaps you can revive something similar?
Re: Mystery audio adventures
There are too many battling fighting and horror themed games in this world. We need more mystery audio adventure puzzle games. to solve that don’t have any crazy creepy scary fighty things in them. And that don’t have any time limits to them
