So this is the kind of bug that only happens on mac with voiceover, normally.
But since I reset my hp laptop, everything brand new, no imported config or anything but for the chrome profiles that have my 5-6 years life data :)
I tested this with nvda fresh from the installer, no import config, as well as with my current config. Happens all the time.
I first noticed it on this very edit field where I am typing now, then created a simple index.html file with just the textarea element in it, no css, nothing.
When I press down arrow on the last blank line
NVDA reports the first character of the first word ever written on the very first line if it's not a space or a blank line(s).
If I press enter to go to the new line at the end of the current one, nvda reads the full content of the multiline text field.
And I really don't know what could be causing this, as I have the same version of chrome / nvda I had in my previous install.
Doesn't happen on the windows 11 vm on my mac either.
I have tried changing the advanced settings but at the time of typing everything is factory default. Is this a known chromium issue? I would be surprized.

Ok, if I understand you correctly...
If I type a sentence, lets go with:
The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.
If I press Enter one time, and then down arrow, it will speak the very first letter typed in this field? In this case, it would say, 'O', since my first work was, 'Ok'.
Is this right?
I can tell you this does, not, happen with Firefox. Following your steps, assuming I am doing so correctly, NVDA just says the word, 'Blank', as I am on a blank line.
Hope this at least answers your question. 😅
Exactly
And Idk why I am getting this bug on a fresh install but never before on a windows machine metal or vm.
The Answer
Because your computer hates you.
True story.
Thank you, that is all. 🙇
I'm using chrome and Firefox and edge and they work fine.
hmm the only thing i can suggest is a complete uninstal. i mean remove everything NVDA, uninstal it, then go to appdata find NVDA there, remove that folder, restart windows, then try installing nvda again.
I concur
Especially the part about deleting the files in the appdata folder for NVDA. Like iOS, there could simply be leftover files that are conflicting with the latest build. 🤷
Same happens to me
Beleive me, I've been wondering if an addon I installed broke it, but you have the issue with a fresh install.
Version
As of tonight the current NVDA version is 2026.1.1. Is this the one you are using? As I understand 2026.2 will be out in a few weeks also, so maybe it'll help.
Also it'd be worth checking on Edge, which is also Chromium based. If it is fine there, it could be possible Chrome needs a reinstall.
2026.1.1 here
I'm using the latest version of NVDA, portable for me, as it is a work related necessity. I also have a thumb drive with the latest copy of the 32 bit version of NVDA, 2025.3.3. Just because. 🤷
However, I'm not having this issue, so I'm not sure what's going on with those who are experiencing this.
I'm experiencing it.
I've instaled chrome and the latest firefox and if I arrow left and right, nothing is there, it's weird but doesn't bother me to much."
I want to say...
I want to say that I am not experiencing this at all, but then again I also do not have chrome installed on my machine. Coincidence? 🤷
