keyboard sounds for iPhone and iPad

iOS and iPadOS

Hi everyone — hope you’re doing well.

Quick question: is there a third-party app for iPhone or iPad that lets you customize the sound of the on-screen typing keyboard?

I already use a Mac app called Loud Typer (via AppleVis) that changes the key-click sounds, and I’m wondering if there’s something similar for iOS/iPadOS.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

I looked into this last week, and sadly, the keyboard sounds can't be changed. One potential workaround is getting a third-party keyboard such as SwiftKey, GBoard, or Grammarly, which come with their own sounds. However, any third-party keyboard could potentially store everything you type with it, which is a serious privacy concern for some users. If you opt to go that route, I would make sure you learn what data your new keyboard stores, and what that data is used for.

This is a feature request I’ve had for a while. Those clicks are barely audible with voiceover. They definitely need to do something about that. I’ve heard people he clicked. One of VoiceOver isn’t on. It’s much louder. We really need a way to either change the volume of those clicks or to use a different sound. I think that’s something I’ll have to put in as another feature request again. Is there something I asked way back when I had my first iPhone and there was no way to do it back on either. But my first iPhone doesn’t go back as far as some people on here. So maybe there used to be a way to do it? I don’t know. My first iPhone was eight and my first iOS was 13.3 something. Hopefully this will become a reality in a future iOS update.
