Windows
Hello everyone,
I recently completed my first month using a Brailliant BI 40X braille display, and I’m really enjoying the experience so far. However, I’ve run into a couple of challenges that I’d appreciate your guidance on:
1. Auto Scroll:
I would like to set my display to auto scroll while reading, but I haven’t been able to find the right setting. At the moment, I have to keep pressing the thumb keys to move from line to line, which slows down my reading flow. Could anyone guide me on how to enable or configure auto scrolling?
2. One-Word Per Line Issue:
I’ve also noticed that sometimes only one word appears on a line, especially at the end of sentences. This makes reading less smooth. Is there a way to adjust the settings in JAWS or on the Brailliant itself to prevent this from happening?
For context, I am using Windows 11 with JAWS as my screen reader.
Any solutions, tips, or pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your help!
Best regards,
Charles

Re: Help
As for autoscroll: the JAWS default keymap (default.jkm) indicates the following:
Braille C1+C2+C6=DecreaseBrailleAutoAdvanceSpeed
Braille C3+C4+C5=IncreaseBrailleAutoAdvanceSpeed
Braille C1+C2+C3+C5=BrailleAutoAdvance
If memory serves and it has been a long time for me using this style of Humanware display, these keys are the vertical set of three on each end of the display... You likely know better than I do.
As for orphaned words, a lot of this is controlled by line breaks in the source. What are you reading? What apps are you experiencing this in? If in a browser you may want to experiment with changing the maximum line length setting. When in your application, press JAWSKey+homerow 6 to open Settings Center, type "length" into the search box and adjust that line length setting.
