Previewing posts on the homepage

On the homepage, under the recent post list, I'd like AppleVis to inplement a way to preview posts as the post title doesn't always say enough. Without having to open the post, I'd like to see 2 or 3 lines of the post body, so one could always get a general idea of how it starts. Thank you!

Hi Mert,

Thank you for the suggestion! I admit to not being sure how this could be done in an elegant and easy-to-navigate way, but we always appreciate any and all suggestions and will take this under advisement.

Thank you very much for your quick response, and I’m happy to hear my suggestion is being considered. I thought adding the preview text along with a ā€œRead moreā€¦ā€ link could do the trick. Users who just want to navigate between posts without seeing previews can simply navigate between headings, so this implementation wouldn’t be an issue for them—at least that’s my thought process.

Because I thought my comment wasn't submitted, I clicked on the save button twice and it duplicated the comment. Especially for situations like this, a button to delete comments would be helpful for both the users and moderators.

I've seen this with email, but not with forums.

Come to think of it, no forum does this—probably because they actually want you to click on the post.

But I can see why it would be useful here.

I don't know if it's a blind community thing, because our subject titles aren't exactly helpful.

A lot of them are vague, so you're forced to open the thread anyway.

But I do agree: if it's doable, I say implement it.

Regarding deleating of comments, you can, at least you were able to last time I looked, not sure if it still aplies if you start a thread.

I've seen that kind of thing abused on other forums.

I think if the forum names were displayed on the home page in the Apple section, it would reduce the need for previews. I think this feature should be given a high priority since so many of us are clamoring for more info about forum posts. Either that, or enforce more descriptive subject lines.

Hi all,

Thank you everyone for your feedback on this thus far.

Adding the name of the forum below each post, similar to how we have it configured for our Non-Apple Forums, is definitely something we have on the development roadmap; hopefully to be done in the next few months. We will keep everyone updated once this change is in production.

Would you guys consider ever adding a "Mark all as read" option to the forums? Normally when we login, we can see how many new replies are to each thread. However, there are some threads that not everybody is interested in. A "Mark all as read" option would benefit here.
Just a suggestion. šŸ˜‡
