I only use it when I only have my phone for the internet, like when out and about.
A plus is that VO describes images in posts. Something Facebook's AI alt text rarely does well. But I suppose it would do that if you were using the site with Safari on the phone, rather than the app.
Another plus is that the time for the post is displayed. I don't remember if it is because of VO recognition or the app itself. On a web browser it is an image link that might have the time in meta data if you inspect it or scan the image, but is not displayed for a screen reader without automatic image recognition otherwise.

Are you talking about "Generate detailed image descriptions" from the action menu? I'd not noticed that before, but it looks useful although it is a pain if you have to set it per image. I thought I'd check the accessibility options to see if there was a way to enable it for everything and the only option is dark mode. So guess not.

These are OK, but I find it really frustrating that there is no Share option for an image. So I can't send it to Be My Eyes or PiccyBot or whatever else to get a proper detailed description. Presumably Meta are just forcing you to stay in their app but it's annoying.

I only really use FaceBook to stalk relatives. But I don't really feel included in anything due to the way I can't really get anything good about all the photos they share. Almost all posts are "Oh look how cute this is!" then lots of images. Sure you can can save them somewhere, then open them up etc. But that kills any enjoyment for me. Particularly if someone has posted a lot of images in one go.

Otherwise the app seems pretty accessible with VoiceOver, for what little I use for it, but it feels to me like it is just a photo sharing tool most of the time and I can't be bothered with that.

Think I am too anti-social for a social media app anyway.

I never use the website anymore. However, I always change one setting every time I open the FB app: I double-tap the Feed tab at the bottom of the screen. This makes going through posts so much easier and quicker. It doesn't remove ads, but it's quick to just flick past them.

I agree that it would be great if the iOS share sheet was available so we could send images and videos directly to our choice of AI app to have them described. But for my purposes, the iOS app is the best way to access Facebook.

On a Mac desktop, the browser experience is pathetic. I should switch to the iOS app. But all I know how to do in the iOS app is look at the junk that shows up in my newsfeed. I need to be able to manage different pages and groups, and I simply don't have the time to learn a new interface. So I scrape by on a desktop in a browser.

I'm talking about how iOS VO will describe images if that feature is turned on for the app, and some update hasn't turned off a bunch of stuff in the iOS accessibility settings, as apposed to Facebooks attempt to label images with alt text, such as, no photo description available, or may be a picture of text. I have a few friends who only communicate with me through Facebook, so it's a necessary evil...
Also, I get the impression not all the features on the site are on the iOS app.
Which reminds me, I don't like typing on the screen of my iPhone. A bluetooth keyboard improves the experience, but I'm more comfortable with the screen reader and OS I normally use. I get in the swing of it after a while, like if I'm traveling, but it seems like I've had to fight with the quick nav and text fields in the past, and I've gotten confused by the spelling correction feature. The spelling is probably just from not using it and it being different from the one on the other OS and browser I use.

Hi,
If I’m writing a comment on the iOS app & only realize I’ve made a typo after posting, how can I, as a voiceover user, successfully edit and resubmit? To this day, I think I’ve only ever been successful doing that once, and it was a very long time ago.

I haven't used facebook on a windows pc or browser in a long time. Anyway, most of my newsfeed consists of general news and political newsfeed. IOS app, using braille screen input is such a breeze.
