Hi!

Yes, there is an accessible way to do this using iMovie on macOS with VoiceOver. It’s not the most intuitive app at first, but once you know the steps, it works fine. Here’s a quick tutorial I’ve put together based on my own experience:

1. Open iMovie and create a new project

  • Press Command + N to start a new movie.
  • If another project is already open, use the Projects button in the toolbar to close or save it.

2. Import your audio and image

  • Press Command + I to open the import dialog.
  • Use VoiceOver navigation (not just arrow keys) to select your audio file first, then your image. You might have to repeat the shortcut to import both.

3. Add both to the timeline

  • Find the Events group in the iMovie interface. VoiceOver should announce it as a group.
  • Interact with it and navigate to your audio file.
  • Press E to add it to the timeline. Do the same for your image.

4. Adjust the image duration

  • By default, photos are 10 seconds long. You’ll need to match the image’s length to the audio:
  • Interact with the timeline, locate the audio clip, and use VO to find its duration.
  • Then interact with the image clip and extend its length until the durations match. You can use VO feedback to track time in seconds.

5. Zoom in/out to fine-tune

  • Press Command + = to zoom in or Command + - to zoom out.
  • This helps if you need more precision while adjusting clip lengths.

6. Export your video

  • Use the Share button in the toolbar and choose File to export your video.
  • Follow the steps to save it and it’ll be ready to upload to YouTube!

Let me know if you get stuck—my Mac is set in French, so some VO messages might differ, but I’ll try to help if you need.

Hope this helps!

In fact, on the timeline, you have the front and rear edges of the photo and the audio. You need to note the position of the rear edge of the audio and match it with that of the photo by moving it using the Vo + arrow keys while interacting with it.

If you can't manage, don't hesitate—either I or others can try to help you. I'm French, so I don't know the exact translations of VoiceOver in English.
