Be careful; Windows on ARM VM tip for any M1 or M2 users.

For anyone using Parallels, UTM, or VMWare Fusion, here is a little tip.
Do *NOT* install classic shell, open shell, or anything that messes with the UI designed for x86. Upon logging into the system, the desktop UI will not start.

Steps to fix are as follows.
After logging into your VM, press ctrl+shift+escapel Task Manager should open.
Find the 'new task' button and press.
On the dialog that comes up, enter appwiz.cpl
This should bring up the old and familiar add/remove programs control panel window.
Uninstall any program you think may mess with the UI and/or resolution.
Close this window and restart your VM.
You may have to close task manager and re-open for it to become accessible again to shutdown or restart.
To restart from the new task dialog, enter shutdown -r -t 00
This tells windows to restart immediately.

Thanks,
Jeremiah

Yeah had that problem before

By Justin Harris

Back when I was using an m1 macbook air, I made that mistake. Of course didn't know how to solve the problem, so ended up having to completely reinstall Windows.
Now I just have a Windows laptop, since I just couldn't get used to doing things with UTM, and refused to pay the money for any other software. With UTM, my vm would suddenly freeze up and I would have to completely kill utm to get it to work again, but of course it lead to the loss of any work that wasn't saved. Happened to me one to many times, and I was done fussing with it. While there are things I miss about Mac OS, I am completely happy with Windows 11 and NVDA. Can't say I would never go back to a mac, but it certainly won't happen until we have full bootcamp ability again, as I just don't like virtualization and all the things required to then get Windows feeling like it should.
