Siri Voices and pauses for punctuation?

I really like Apple's Siri voices, and even more so that we can use them with VoiceOver. I haven't tried this on iOS, but at least on the Mac, Siri voices don't pause for certain punctuation marks. Or if they do, it's random. For example, commas. Or if there's numbers after a period (e.g. 24% battery power. 5 hours and 43 minutes remaining until empty. Gets read as: 24% battery power 5 hours and 43 minutes remaining until empty.). Is there a workaround for this? It makes reading feel almost unnatural.

Yeah noticed this, it is inconsistent. Sometimes the periods are given too much of a pause.
