Please suggest responsive voices on iPhone

By Mohith BP, 22 October, 2020

iOS and iPadOS

I have recently bought an iPhone SE and find most of the voices are not responsive enough to understand the pronunciation when speed is kept 70+.
I regularly use Eloquence on Android and PC.
I tried with most of the voices. They are really good when the speed is less than 50, but I am finding it difficult to understand the pronunciation when kept to 70 or 75.

Samantha for Me!

By That Blind Canuck

Most people I know say that Samantha sounds like she smokes 20 packs a day, but I've stuck with her over the years and, although I've tried many voices, I always find myself going back to her.

She seems to do well with high speech rates and, the gbest part, you don't need to download her voice.

Keep in mind, you can change rponunciation of things. I haven't done so, but I know it's possible. It's all what you decide for yourself. Personally I'd love to get rid of Samantha, Fredm and all the others I don't use. That goes for the Mac too but that's another story.

Tom

Tom works well. Also Siri male.

I'll stick with Tom.

I'm running Tom at 90% and he sounds fine. Of course, I use the same thing with Jaws on my PC and have done so for a few years, so that probably has something to do with it. One thing I do, which helps, is to keep the speech volume below about 80%, much above that and it doesn't sound as good.

I think I use Alix around sixty.

this is a bit off topic but I wish applevis would get rid of the subject line. It's hard to come up with subjects when you want to write one or two word answers.

I never did care much about speech rate, but that's just me.

On iOS, I use Fred at the rate of 50 because it actually uses inflection when it incounters things like a full stop or an exclamation mark.

Plus, I prefer a robotic sounding synthesizer.

On the windows side, I use to use eloquence, but now that NVDA has inflection with eSpeak, I've been using that for a few years now.

I use the Robert varient for the curious, speech rate set to 50 and the inflection set all the way up to 100.

I use Alex

I use Alex at hte rate of 60 because English isn't my native language. For my native language which is russian I use it at the rate of 80. Also if I use ava I use the rate at 70%.

I think i'll use eloquence for as long as I can until i'm forced to stop because of an update.

It'll be hard getting used to another symth but I'll have to do it one day, I'm not looking forward to that honestly.

JAWS uses it and it's not going to be ditched, and Eloquence Github projects have made it arguably more feature-rich and versatile. So don't worry about losing it anytime soon.

Responsive Voice

Greetings. For me, Alex has been the most responsive, especially if I want to do Braille Screen Input with character echoing turned on.

That's great about eloquence.

I'd be shocked in a good way if it would last another 10 years but I'd probably still use it even if the most human snappyest voice came out. I like new symts but the voices just don't sound right to me.

I agree withSamantha. In the past, I’ve tried many voices but always seem to go back to Samantha.

I can understand you because I'm like that too with elequents.
though I know if elequents wil no-longer be an option or if apple does some work on mac and I buy it.. because I want to use it once :) I'll use Siri female but elequents? I love it a lot.
probably because ever since I learnt computer I have been using it. NVDA kind of ditched the support after an update but I was lucky to get IBM TTS from BHP so I'm using elequents.

Samantha

In my opinion, Samantha is the least worst on the iPhone. I routinely keep her at 90+. I prefer Alex on the Mac, but he kinda sucks on iPhone. None of them are good. If I had my way, I'd probably be using Microsoft David or Eloquence.

Alex for me. I tried using Tom and Samantha, but I found that whenever I would use BSI the voices would lag, so I went right back to Alex.
