Update: AppleInsider and MacRumors both now report that these updates were not meant for the public but were briefly, and inadvertently, published to the main release channel. Apple subsequently pulled the initial downloads and has re-released them as downloads exclusive to developers.
It is likely that iOS 14.1 and iPadOS 14.1 are what will ship on the upcoming new iPhones and iPad Air. Whether these releases will be publicly available beyond this is currently unknown. As iOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2 are already at an advanced stage of their respective beta cycles, it is probable that these will actually be the next public releases, with 14.1 limited to the new models upon their launch.
Following today's iPhone 12 and HomePod Mini launch event, Apple has released iOS 14.1, iPadOS 14.1, and tvOS 14.1 to add support for the new products announced today.
MacRumors reports that there is “no word yet on what's included”, so we'll update this post once more information becomes available.
Naturally we will be particularly interested in learning if these updates bring fixes for any of the bugs that were introduced for blind and low vision users in iOS 14.0 and iPadOS 14.1. If you discover any fixes, changes or regressions in your own use of these updates, please let us know by adding a comment below.
iOS 14.1 and iPadOS 14.1 are available via Over-the-Air Update (Settings > General > Software Update) via Finder on a Mac with macOS Catalina or later, or via iTunes on a PC or Mac with macOS Mojave or earlier.
To install tvOS 14.1 on Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD, go to the Settings channel, then look for the System section near the bottom. From here, look for Software Updates under Maintenance, then select Update Software and Download and Install.
Checked and nothing. In Chicago.
I am also interested in knowing if any of the accessibility-related bugs that were reported for iOS 14.0, have been resolved in this update. Specifically the one pertaining to focus jumping around, and the lag.
iOS 14.1 release
I believe that iOS 14.1 was actually released (at least in the U.S.) last week since I've been running it for a while now. I didn't notice any difference in terms of accessibility with Voiceover and believe many of the same bugs we've noticed are still there.
That was iOS 14.0.1 not iOS…
That was iOS 14.0.1 not iOS 14.1
I got a tweet earlier, stating that iOS 14.1 has been polled.
I don’t know why, but apparently, iOS 14.1 has been polled.
Then why does my phone say my software is up to date?
I am running 14.01. A friend is also getting the same message as me. If it's been released, our phones should be telling us that the next update is ready.
so am I
I'm getting it to. I wonder if it was only for certain devices. That's the only reason I can think of. Or maybe it hasn't some people's devices yet?
i wonder why it was pulled.
I do too, but I just got another tweet, and the update is back.
I will post a message here, once the update is available publicly.
The only thing is, I don’t know when that will be, but I’m sure it will be soon, if we’re seeing the gold master now.
Thanks Skippy. I hope it fixes some bugs. Or makes progress towards fixing them. look forward to hearing from you. :-)
only to developers at this time
iOS 14.1 is available only to registered developers at this time.
It was remove from the web. Maybe tomorrow will be out. Just heard that was pull.
Confusion with iOS 14.0.1 and 14.1 plus a bugf
fSorry about my previous post about iOS 14.1 being available last week. After listening more closely to what Voiceover spoke about the version number using the default punctuation and the high quality Alex voice I realize that there is another bug that Apple should fix before iOS 14.1 actually comes out.
When reading the version number Voiceover says"
"iOS 14 dot point one"
I consider that a bug and would have expected Voiceover to say something like:
"iOS 14 point zero point one"
Bugs of this type obviously cause misinformation and errors to be made.
Anyway, thanks to others for the clarification. I will report this bug to Apple.
I have not
I have not seen that. And I use Ava and hands. I’m not saying that you’re wrong. Because yes that is definitely a bug. But I wonder if it’s only happening with certain boys. Have you tried with another voice just to see if it says the same thing? Because this is what mine says whenever I look for an update.
ipad-OS. 14 point zero point 1
Maybe try and see if it happens with one of the voices that’s already installed. At least one or two. Before you send it to Apple. Back Road if it’s an isolated incident or if it’s widespread. Or if it happens only on certain voices. That’s what I’m with you. I’m not saying download and install every single voice. But at least do one or two.
But I do agree with you. But this is a breeding ground for this information and misinterpretation.
