Description of App

Talk to friends in another language, even if neither of you can speak it! Slated translates while you type into your choice of over 80 languages! It can also translate what your friends send back to you in that language, instantly.

As seen on TechCrunch, LifeHacker, iMore, and more!

Slated is a keyboard extension - it can replace your keyboard in other apps, letting you converse in another language. As you type, it translates into your preferred language. Also, by simply copying any other text that's in that language, you'll see it translated back into yours. So you can and a friend can both type in a foreign language--even if it's foreign to both of you!

"If you’re interested in communicating with someone in real-time in their own language, it’s a fairly small price to pay....We’re nearing the era of the true Babel fish, people, and it’s amazing to watch." - TechCrunch

Works with SMS, iMessage, WhatsApp, Line, WeChat, KakaoTalk, Twitter, Kik, Facebook Messenger, Viber, Skype, and your favorite messaging app. Or any app that uses text!

Text someone "hello" or "I love you" in their native language, or a language you want to learn.

Communicate better, worlds away. Even learn a new language just by texting!

HOW TO INSTALL THE KEYBOARD:
1. Go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards
2. Add New Keyboard...
3. Choose Translation - Slated and enable Full Access*

*Rest assured, no data of any kind is stored or shared by Slated. Translations use network access for Google services, and are bound by their terms of service and privacy policy. This is machine translation, in order to be in real time, so don't expect perfect, native colloquialisms and diction as if it were from a native speaker! It is a great way to get your meaning across if you don't speak the language, and a different way to learn vocabulary!

HOW TO USE SLATED:
● From your normal keyboard, press and hold the bottom left button (usually a globe or smiley), and select Slated from the list
● Once visible, choose the language you want to translate to by tapping the ... button
● Type anything, and tap the translation that shows up to replace your text
● If you want to "reverse translate" text, just copy it and it will show up translated just above the keyboard buttons

Accessibility Comments

Unfortunately, this is currently somewhat of a mess with VoiceOver.

The highlights include not being able to access all keys on the keyboard - most notably Shift, Delete, switching between letters and numbers, and switching to another keyboard are all inaccessible.

When typing, all letters were announced as capitalized, even though they weren’t in the actual message.

Switching between languages is possible but confusing with no visual cues.

When used to compose an email, it is not possible to swipe between composition page elements.

Oh yes, and this doesn’t appear to work with touch typing mode.

All this is a great shame, as the test message that I somehow managed to type and mail was actually translated quite well.

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads a few page elements.

Button Labeling

Most buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability

Some parts of the app are accessible with VoiceOver, but not enough to make it usable.
