Podcasts: Introducing Apple's New Standalone Podcast App for iOS

In this podcast, AnonyMouse gives us a walk-through and demonstration of the new standalone podcast app from Apple. Although not as feature-rich as established podcast apps such as Downcast and iCatcher, this free app offers new and casual podcast listeners an easy way to discover, subscribe to and play podcasts.

In iOS 6, podcasts are likely to be removed from the native iTunes app, and you will be prompted to download this app to access the extensive library of podcasts that are available through iTunes.

If you listen to podcasts on your iDevice, we would love to hear your opinions on this new app. Will it tempt you away from your existing podcatcher?

Some questions have been asked to me about the new Apple Podcast. So I thought I share them with you that were not mentioned in the podcast.

Q: Can you enter an RSS feed manually?
A: No. Apple restrict to only what can be found in their Apple Podcasts store.

Q: Can you set the refresh time?
A: No. At this time it appears that it refreshes when you launch the app and there no settings to change this option.

Q: Can you hide played episodes?
A: No. I couldn't find a way to hide played episodes. So you will face with all of the episodes played or not. However, they are marked as played if you have already listened to it or have marked it played.

Q: Why do other podcast apps seem to be able to retrieve podcasts that aren't on the iTunes podcast store yet?
A: I'm not sure. There does seem to be a delay when a podcast are available from other podcast apps. I do know apps such as TuneIn Radio delays their podcast list to once a day. So I don't know how Apple does their refreshes on podcasts.

I hope this help in those with questions. If you have any more. Please feel free to ask!
