Challenge Your Driving Skills With Audio Rally Racing For Mac
In this podcast, Khalfan Bin Dhaher introduces us to Audio Rally Racing, the much-anticipated new game from TiconBlu.
This game lets you choose between 11 cars and 50 different circuits; and single race or tournament mode.
I wanted to thank you for the demonstration. It's funny, I had no joy until listening to you play through this, yet I was one of the guys who got good at AudioSpeed quickly. It's a very good game by the way, the environmental sounds are very nice on some of the tacks, Japan especially has some nice effects.
When I tested this, the quality was horrible, the voice was artifact and crappy, and the car sounds to me sounded fake. I basically called the dev out, and let's say they were not too happy with me, but I'm an honest tester in that I speak my mind. Audio speed has the same problems. I can hear every splice the voice over actor did, and the audio clips a lot at least in my mind. So I don't think I'lll even consider any other games from this developer for the future. Sorry I have to be so blunt, but that's my take on things. And I believe in speaking my mind in a professional manner to the best of my ability.
The mechanics of the game are not the best. I like the ideas of the sound sensors to let you know when to go away from the edge, but the driving mechanics are not great. Upshifts are terrible and unrealistic, engine sounds are very unrealistic. Yes, it's only version 1.0, but I'd suggest taking a look at mainstream driving council games like need for speed etc. I'm not an audiophile as such, but having purchased the game and funded there kickstarter campaign, I expected better. Like the previous poster said, I'm sure the dev are not happy but, I'm just stating my personal opinion of the current release. Great job on the podcast, though! you always make great podcasts, and look forward to hearing more!
Thanks James. :)
Glad you loved it. It's so nice to hear from a gamer like you. I've been waiting so long for this game and know people thoughts about it.
As usual, I love to bring something new and unique for the community.
Hope the podcast was clear for everyone.
Enjoy and happy racing.
I totally agree that the car engine sounds are fake, not real engine sounds as expected. I have nothing to do about that, I wanted to give an idea to the user about the game before purchasing the game.
I haven't played the game as its not my sort of thing, but bare in mind mainstream games like this cost thousands or tens of thousands to produce and realistically nobody is going to spend that sort of money on an audio game for us, there just wouldn't be enough profit in it.
If I remember right the developers didn't manage to successfully get all the money they were hoping for on kick starter? at least the game exists, and I am not saying we shouldn't make constructive comments about the game, but at the same time we should be grateful a developer has put the time in to make this game, and remember money is finite, and the developers had to work with the resources they had.
I heard the podcast and I absolutely love the idea of the game, you do get loads of options. I'm thinking these guys are probably working on a shoestring budget, which would explain the fake car sounds. To me, this game is kind of like some other things... a great idea but not quite ready for prime time. Most racing games I'm familiar with have some kind of steering wheel or other controller associated with it, but of course these guys probably couldn't program that into the game. if they could improve on the car sounds it'd make things much more realistic. As for the voice in the game, it didn't bother me much. I didn't hear any audio degredation, clipping or anything else the audioffiles in the blind community seem to hate. My ears just haven't been trained to listen for these things. So, great game but at this point I wouldn't buy it and I wouldn't pay what these guys are charging for it at least not yet. They would have to improve the game. Lets wait for the versions that come out in the future and we'll see how it goes.
Yeah, I definitely agree with the last poster. They're working on a tight budget, which is totally understandable. The voice is great, no clipping or distortion on my side. I'm gonna wait on really playing this until future updates to the game are released.
It's a little concerning to me the degree of whining that occurs whenever one of these audio games is released. These developers are not console game developers, indeed even console games aren't always value for money. For a version 1 game, Rally Racing is very good. Look, you have a good amount of tracks, some nice environmental sounds to boot, it's affordable plus it'll be updated with new features. As to the car sounds being fake, so what? It's not as if the cars are real anyways, anyone bought a blind demon or a Speed Ace from your local showroom? The sounds are similar to arcade races of yore, don't concern yourself with it. It's interesting to me that a lot of console racing games have rubbish car sounds as well, it's very hard to capture well. I'm as fussy as the next person, i've a BSC in sound design and electronic music but it's only a game, it cost £14 or so and i've had take outs that are more expensive than it. Yes, cost is relative and all the rest of it, but for me, i've enjoyed version 1.
I tried to play it as you would AudioSpeed by constantly listening to the side sensors and reacting, it's not the same game. It's an entirely different racing experience and I like it.
I bought it this afternoon and really am enjoying it. I have noticed a couple of bugs which I thought would have been detected in beta testing. Firstly, for me at least, the shift plus backtab does not work. I have not gotten it to work one time when going through menus. Second, and more concerning, a lot of times when I finish a race, I hear the crowd applauding, and then the game hangs. I know I get to the end of the race, but the car sound just continues on at a steady hum and nothing I do can make anything happen except exiting the game. I'm running it on Windows 7, btw. Still, like I said, real car noises or not, it's a very fun game.
Is this game availible for IOS?
Negative. The game is currently only available for PC or mac.
Hi, I emailed the developer about the game links because the links that are in the email that I got don't actually show up as links. It's just text. I haven't yet got an email concerning the links for the game. It's kind of getting me a little worried.
actualy I tink I noticed that to when I reuested a download demo. I have not had the time to email the dev. Oh btw they are very slow at answering.
Thanks for your comments!
Please email the developer that I want this game for IOS. You want it too, right?
If and when they get the other bugs taken care of in theother games then it would be a good idea for ios. but so far I don't think it would work. Also be aware the games on the ios platform are about as much as the games on the platformas they develope for, between $15-120.
I think they send out the email formatted different than it needs to be to recognize links. For example, when my game link email came across, it showed up with all of the HTML code showing as opposed to the correct links. What I had to do was read through it with JAWS, on my Windows machine, select the link part out from the HTML code, and paste it into my browser. The same thing is true for the registration code for the game. Hope this helps.
I just noticed in the tournament mode when using the Windows version, if your score gets higher than a thousand, your score number becomes "too much." My final tournament score a few minutes ago was "too much."
First of all I loose focus when entering the code. This is poor coding on the developer's part. I can command tab away but when I get back to enter in the code I have to restart voice over just to hear the prompts. Pasting in the key is also again not doable and the voice is all low bit rate and recorded or saved as such . This was the case with the other game audio speed. I also loose functionally of all voice over keys. I just bought the game and so far this is my experience.
It's almost as though the app will not get out of full screen mode and this causes a mess in the other apps I use. Can anyone work around this so that I might get past this annoying thing. If this is how the game is to act all the way through I'm not impressed!
I just downloaded the game today and play with it on the Mac. it works well and no problem the only problem I seem to have is the navigate the car. I can't turn it fast enough to not run over the curve. over all I'm very happy with the game, thank you for develop the game for us blind gamer.
