Playing chess with Facebook Messenger

By Elena Brescacin, 5 February, 2016

Here is a procedure to play chess using Facebook Messenger application.
Note: this is text-only mode, it's as simple as a chat; for a blind user, it's recommended to have a real chess board in proximity to study the positions and perform moves, but it's also good for people who knows to play chess by heart.
It is simply a server which stays between you and your opponent.
Just select a contact you wish to play with, and then, use this command:
@fbchess play

This starts a game with random color.
If you wish to choose the color, you just need to write: @fbchess play White or @fbchess play black. To finalize the command, just press the Send button, as it was a normal chat.
To make a move, just use the standard chess annotation, in this way:
@fbchess Nf3 - this will move the knight to f3 place on the chessboard.
If you need to move the pawn, just say @fbchess d3, or @fbchess Pd3.
To have information about further commands, just say @fbchess help

As the @fbchess command is quite long to write down on the messenger app, it's highly recommended to save it as an abbreviation on the general keyboard settings on the iOS device, in the text replacement window.
Maybe it's not the easiest way to play, as knowledge of annotation is required, but it can be one of the ways to have fun!

www.facebook.com/fbchess is the facebook profile of this funny server.

you may send a message to http://www.facebook.com/elena.brescacin.3 - from computer or anywhere you just write this line:
@fbchess play

if you have color preferences, after the world play, you just write the color name. White, or black.

If you want to add me as a facebook contact you may do it but remember to deactivate the "follow" button, unsubscribing from my posts on your home feed, as I am not native english speaking and you may find a lot of rubbish in italian Language you do not understand.

Thanks!

Wow, that's cool.
You could set up a spreadhseet on your computer nearby so you can keep track too if you don't want have a physical board. I assume sighted people see it on screen?
