Turn off navigation sounds when using Voiceover on Apple Watch

By Stoo, 25 September, 2022

watchOS and Apple Watch Apps

Hi, have just got the new Apple Watch Ultra and have one main question.

Is there a way to turn off the navigation sounds when using voiceover?

I can customise these on my iPhone, so when I swipe I don't always get that clunking sound when encountering each item as I swipe.

Ideally I just want Voiceover to speak, with no other sounds as I navigate.

Is this possible and if so how?

Many thanks. Stu.

Customizing VoiceOver feedback, Apple watch

By Alycia

I was wondering if anyone knows how to customize the VoiceOver sounds, or feedback with Apple Watch? When I am in a meeting, with a braille display and my watch, I do NOT want to keep hearing the click-click sounds VoiceOver makes when flicking right or left. I do NOT want to put my watch in Silent mode because I like my hourly chimes and whatnot. I KNOW that this can be done on the phone. Often times, if I am somewhere, say on the bus, and I want to text someone, I just take out my little braille display, but NO one else needs to hear all those VoiceOver sounds. Thank you for any information you may have. I'm running a Series 6, latest version of IOS.

I find those sounds extremely irritating. I started using computers 40 years ago and have never had sounds except for speech. I'm glad we have the option of turning off those pesky sounds on the iPhone and iPad and wish it were so for the watch too.

Right on!! I follow you. I starting using computers with an Apple 6 E, and BEX. But as I have continued to lose hearing, I find the speech more difficult to understand, and I am relying Very much on braille and haptics these days. I also find those sounds, in my opinion, slowstwhole processor down, as does speech, to some extent. If anyone knows how to make those, as the nice poster above said, "pesky sounds" go away, please do tell. I agree. I have very few of them on my phone. Sounds for the IMPORTANT things...toggle switches, etc.

Turn down watch main volume

Hi
If you turn down the watch's main volume in sound settings, it will also turn down the VoiceOver navigation sounds. I mainly use silent mode, so it doesn't bother me that the ringer is not there, but that's a trade off you will have to consider.

so, the ringer and alerts don't sound either when VO sounds are

Hello,
so, what you're stating is the ringer and alert sounds aren't there when VO sounds are turned down. the only problem I have with that is when using the digital crown for navigation. you don't have the haptics on say Wattch series 2, but if you did, I would follow your instructions. I like the sounds and will deal with it. sometimes, we have to deal with other peoples' faults and not judge.

P.S. at least, we should do this more than we do.
