Trouble Re-Pairing Apple Watch with iPhone 6

Hi. My husband recently forgot his watch at home but took his phone to work. Since then, the watch has been disconnected from the iPhone and has not reconnected. He tried to unpair the watch from the Apple Watch app on the iPhone, and the iPhone gave him the "start pairing" screen, but the Apple watch still thinks it's connected to the iPhone. The settings glance says disconnected, but it shows the clock face and home screen. It has not confirmed that it is no longer paired and gone back to the setup screen. How can we get it to do that? Are we missing something? Thanks guys; any help is appreciated.

I think the easiest solution would probably be to reset all of the settings on the Watch itself:
1. Go into Settings on the Watch's Home Screen.
2. Select General.
3. Select Reset and then select the Reset All Settings element.
