custom ring tones and text tones

By Troy B, 8 May, 2017

Hello all,

I've been given a couple of new tones to use on my phone. Last night I transferred one tone using the automatically add to iTunes folder and when I synced my phone the tone got transferred, but the new tone only shows up in my ring tones list but not under text tones. I'd rather use it as a text tone than a ring tone because I receive a lot more texts on my phone than I do phone calls, but how can I make this happen when the only place the new tone shows up in settings is under ring tones but not under text tones?

Thanks.

Since the only place I see the new tone is under ring tones in settings how do I assign it as a text tone? It's only in one place.

If you want to use a text tone for a ringtone on your phone, then go into your phone settings, sounds, and then choose the item that you want to assign and select the appropriate ringtone or text tone. it matters not where iTunes has stored them on your computer. Your phone will recognize what you want anyway. For example, if you want your phones default ringtone to be a text tone then simply select the one you want and you are done.

There is one situation that I have found which doesn't work like this, however. If you use the Twitter app, you cannot assign a different tone to the app no matter what you choose. I don't know if this is a third party app specific problem or if Apple has blocked reassignment for some reason. Otherwise, I have fround that you can interchange text tones for ringtones.

I will second what others have said above. When you go into the sounds and the part where you select your text tone, the alert tones will be your first selections, but you can go past them and all of your ringtones are available for use. Believe me, I have many custom tones I've created and imported and use all the time. You can also assign a custom ringtone and/or text tone to each contact if you really want, or at least frequent texters and callers.

Look for the Ringtones heading

When picking a text tone keep swiping right untill you see the ring tones heading. All my custome tones show up before the first apple ring tone Apex. One more thing to check is to make sure you aren't in the clasic tones if you are you have to hit the text tone back button.

The new tone shows up as the first ring tone I can choose from when I double-tap ring tones, but when I double-tap text tones and go down to the list of ring tones the new tone isn't listed there for some odd reason.

Unusual tones not like everyone elses.

I too like to have different tones. My default tone is the theme song from the TV show Survivor. And my text tone is a barking dog. The iTunes Store has lots of ring tone choices and each one is very cheep. And you don't have to worry about how to transfer them. They go automatically in your tones list.
