Switching between open applications on Mac with a braille display command or trackpad gesture?

Is there any way I can assign either a Braille Display command or a trackpad gesture to switch between open applications? I found "switch between open windows" in "navigation" but not "switch between open applications." Am I missing something obvious? I can use the two-finger double tap gesture on left side of trackpad and quickly choose the application I want without lifting my fingers from Braille Display. If I could save an extra step and switch between two previously opened applications without needing to use command+tab that would be really helpful during Zooms. Thanks!
