stop voiceover from reading emojis

macOS and Mac Apps

Hi all!
I recently started using discord fairly regularly. Aside from its usual accessibility issues, I've now joined a server which uses emojis for all of its channel names in addition to text.
I want to create a voiceover activity for discord, and I am comfortable doing that itself. However, I don't see any settings in the voiceover utility to make voiceover just ignore emojis. Does this not exist on the mac? Is it called something weird? Am I just missing it?
Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
