Selecting and reviewing text formatting

Hi Everyone,
I am running Yosemite. In text edit, how do I select text from the cursor to the end of the document? I tried shift command down arrow, but it seemed to only select to the bottom of the page. I stopped interacting with the text, went into the formatter to choose 2.0 spacing, and went back into the document. It took me to the top of the file. Is there something else I should be doing?
Also, how do I check the formatting to say if it is double-spaced? I tried VO-t, but it only says bold, font type and size, ETC, but not line number and spacing.

Thank you for your help.

Hello Martha:
I have been doing option + Shift + Down arrow till the end of the file and then hittingDelete. I know that is ugly but I don't know of any other way.
I hope I get enlightened. :)
