Reading the content of merged cells in Numbers for Mac

Does any one knows how to read the content of merged cells in Numbers for Mac? For some reason just moving to the cell won't do it. The strange thing is that in some rare occasions it read it to me by just moving into the cell, but I haven't been able to reproduce the process to find out how to do it always. My only solution is to enter in edit mode to check the content of the cell, but that is not efficient.

Any ideas will be appreciated.
